County News

Sheep/Meat Goat Weigh In
Weigh in will be Saturday, May 1st at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds.  Weigh in is required for anyone who plans to show market sheep or meat goats at any Fair in 2021.  County tags will be $2 and retinal scans (required if you plan to show at the State Fair) are $5.  After weigh in, remember to add your animals in 4hOnline before May 15th!

Bucket/Bottle Project
First meeting will be April 18th at 1:00 pm at the Fairgrounds.  Join their Facebook group to stay informed on dates/times and updates.

Animal ID Deadline is May 15th
All animals that you intend to show at County of State Fair must be IDed in 4hOnline by May 15th.  Note that IDing is different from making a Fair entry.  Help sheets are available to walk you through the IDing process on the 4-H Livestock Identification webpage.

Hamilton County 4-H Foundation Grants
The Hamilton County 4-H Foundation is starting a new grant opportunity to allow clubs to receive funds for their community service projects. They have budgeted up to $500 for each club to pay for materials for their community service projects (i.e., paint, flowers, fabric, printing, etc.) Please see the application form on our website (last bullet point under forms & worksheets) for more details. If you have any questions, call or email Brynna.

YQCA Training
Everyone who plans on showing livestock at a county or state fair must have their YQCA training done.  Aim to have this completed by May 15th.  Thanks to Cactus Family Farms we are able to offer training free of charge.  Contact Brynna or Stacie to get a coupon code before logging in.  Training link and help sheets: extension.iastate.edu/4h/yqca

Statewide News


2021 Iowa 4-H Youth Conference
New for 2021: The Youth Conference will be held as a 1-day event, three times, each taking place in Ames on the campus of Iowa State University.  Registration will take place by AREA of the state, youth MUST register for their area’s assigned day  Hamilton County's area/day is: Central: Wednesday, June 30.  Registrations will be limited to 130 4-H members each day. This will not include Animal Science Round Up participants.  Youth will not be allowed to register for a day outside their county’s assigned day.  Youth will not be allowed to register for Round Up on one day and Conference on their area’s day. Youth sign up for ONE event.  Registration will open in April.  See the Conference website for for info. 
 

4-H'ers for 4-H
This annual campaign is conducted by youth members of the State 4-H Council Finance Committee.  4-H Clubs across the state are encouraged to donate $3.00 per 4-H member and the funds raised benefit financial aid, State 4-H Conference, and other projects as voted upon by the State 4-H Council. The campaign runs through June 1, 2021.  More information is available on the Iowa 4-H Foundation website.
