Festival of Small Halls to Burren Junction School of Arts Hall
The Woodfordia Inc team are excited to be bringing the Festival of Small Halls to Burren Junction School of Arts Hall on 30 April as part of the Autumn 2021 tour. The tour will visit 20 towns in regional NSW between 7 April - 2 May 2021.
Festival of Small Halls is a series of tours that takes the best folk and contemporary acoustic artists performing at two of our country’s largest festivals, and sends them on the road to tiny halls in communities all over Australia.
It is produced by Woodfordia Inc in partnership with many other wonderful Australian festivals, regional partners and great lovers and supporters of folk and contemporary acoustic music.
It’s an opportunity for music-lovers from welcoming communities to invite artists from Home and Abroad into their towns.

ClubGRANTS is back for 2021


Application rounds for 2021 ClubGRANTS funding are beginning to open again in NSW.

ClubGRANTS is one of Australia’s largest grant programs, providing more than $100 million each year to charities, sporting organisations and not-for-profit community groups.

Since 1998, clubs have contributed over $1 billion in cash and in-kind funding support across the state.

ClubGRANTS covers three funding categories: 
  • Category 1: Community welfare and social services, community development, employment assistance activities, community health services, and projects aimed at improving living standards. 
  • Category 2: General community development and support activities, including junior sport.
  • Category 3: Large-scale community infrastructure projects such as hospitals and sporting facilities.

DNSW announce funding for tourism operators!!!!
The Tourism Product Development Fund comprises two streams:
• Refresh and Renew Fund: offering $10,000 grants to regional tourism operators to update their product or experience
• Experience Enhancement Fund: provides between $50,000 and $150,000 in matched funding to assist operators upgrade existing accommodation to be 4 to 5-star, upgrade business and leisure event venues and facilities, repurpose existing infrastructure to provide new facilities or experiences not currently available within the destination, or to create new tourism attractions or experiences

Creative Leadership Opportunities

Funder:  Create NSW

Grant Background: The NSW Government has announced four inaugural Fellowship programs, valued at up to $30,000 each, to drive the personal, creative and career advancement of NSW artists, practitioners and arts and cultural workers.

Create NSW is partnering with eminent arts organisations to deliver the four new Fellowship programs to five recipients at a total investment of $150,000:

  • Aboriginal Curator Placement (Emerging) in partnership with Art Gallery of NSW,
  • Conductor: Orchestral Conducting Fellowship with Sydney Youth Orchestra,
  • NSW Aboriginal Creative Fellowship with the State Library of NSW and
  • NSW Musical Theatre Fellowship with Hayes Theatre Co.

The new Fellowships will connect emerging artists and cultural workers directly with established arts organisations to provide creative upskilling, mentorship and access to industry experts and opportunities to fulfil their career ambitions.

Regional Sport Facility Fund
Funder: NSW – Sport
Grant Background: The NSW Government has committed $50 million to the Regional Sport Facility Fund over two-years, helping create spaces and facilities that enable communities to enjoy and take part in sport.
The Fund will:
assist eligible organisations to develop quality core sport infrastructure that will meet the current and future needs of the community.
will support the development of well-designed and utilised new and improved sport infrastructure projects that can directly impact and support participation and performance opportunities in sports at all levels.
will focus on sporting facilities that deliver the best outcomes for the community. It will ensure that the best possible value for money is achieved.
The key objectives of the Fund are to:
increase the number and type of sporting facilities;
improve the standard of existing sporting facilities;
increase participation in sport.
$ Available: Up to $1million. For projects costing more than $1 million, a 25 percent financial co-contribution of the grant amount requested will be required. For all other projects, a financial co-contribution will be considered favourably.
Eligibility: Your organisation is:
a local government authority in Regional NSW, Lord Howe Island and the Unincorporated Far West
a State Sporting Organisation, State Sporting Organisation for People with Disability or the National Sporting Organisation where the state body is part of a unitary governance model
an incorporated, community-based, notfor-profit sporting organisation (clubs and associations whose primary purpose is to organise sporting activities/ deliver sport programs) and organisations providing sport and recreation programs that benefit the community, such as PCYCs, YMCA and YWCA
an organisation that owns and administer public parklands
a private enterprise (for-profit organisation).

DICK COLLESS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR TAFE/TERTIARY STUDENTS
 
Applications are now being invited for the 2021 Dick Colless Memorial Scholarships.
 
Four scholarships of up to $2,500 each are awarded annually to students entering their second and/or subsequent years of study at recognised tertiary institutions and TAFE colleges.
 
Scholarships will only be awarded to those students who have their principle place of residence located in the Walgett Shire area.
 
Scholarships will be based on course fees, accommodation requirements and any other special requirements for study such as residential course attendance expenses.
 
When awarding scholarships due consideration will be had to the results achieved in the first or subsequent years of study.

FREE Cultural Tourism Workshop in Lightning Ridge Thursday 4th March 9am - 3pm
“Cultural tourism is almost as diverse as culture itself in that it can embrace practically any activity connected with, or peculiar to, a country, area, city or town: art, cinema, language, sport, religion, architecture, gastronomy, nature or any kind of folklore. But there are other much less conventional, and in some cases very alternative, types of cultural tourism”.

NSW REGIONAL BUSINESS EVENT DEVELOPMENT FUND

What is the NSW Regional Business Event Development Fund?

The NSW Regional Business Event Development Fund is designed to help stakeholders create, attract and support exciting business events for regional NSW and to support new business event initiatives aimed at enriching the events with opportunities offered by iconic towns and regions while helping secure successful conferences and events for their future.

The four streams of the program are:

  1. Creation of a New Business Event – To encourage towns and regions to create their own new conferences and business events. 
     
  2. Attraction of an Existing Business Event – To assist rural and regional NSW to secure conferences, business events and major expos. The business event should have previously been held in a capital city, interstate or overseas and funding is being sought to bring the event to a regional NSW location.
     
  3. Support for an Existing Business Event – To support events that are held in regional NSW and may rotate between locations. Funds must be used to drive increased visitation for the event.
     
  4. Support for a Business Event Project – To assist rural and regional NSW implement business event projects or initiatives aimed at driving growth in the visitor economy of regional NSW. This may take the form of a business event series or roadshow; a specific element of a business event where the main event is being held in a capital city or interstate; or a small-scale infrastructure project specifically designed to support growth in business events.
     

What level of funding is available?

Grant funding (from a pool of $500,000 excluding GST) will be offered until 30 April 2021 or until the pool of funds available has been expended. Applications will be assessed on a first-come-first-served basis until the funds have been expended. Funding is to be matched dollar-for-dollar by local communities, councils, entrepreneurs, associations, corporations, professional conference organisers or grants received by other Local, State and Federal Government Departments.

An Applicant may apply for funding based on the following scale:

  • Up to $15,000 (ex GST) for a business event with up to 150 delegates (projected attendance)
  • Up to $30,000 (ex GST) for a business event with over 150 delegates (projected attendance)

Adoption of the Draft Walgett Shire Council Cemetery Policy
 
The Draft Walgett Shire Council Cemetery Policy (DWSCCP) was adopted unchanged at the Council Meeting held on Tuesday 23 February 2021. The draft Cemetery Policy was previously advertised for a period of 42 days in accordance with the Local Government Act 193. No submissions were received. The adopted policy can be viewed on Council’s website www.walgett.nsw.gov.au
 
This policy is written for the cemeteries that are under Council’s management, they include; Walgett, Lightning Ridge, Burren Junction, Carinda, Collarenebri and Cumborah.

NOTICE TO RESIDENTS

Fox Street Footpath– Walgett

Walgett Shire Council wishes to advise residents and road users that Fox Street, Walgett (Between Euroka Street & Trevillion Park – Eastern Side) that new footpath works will commence on Monday, 1st March 2021.

Please be advised that access to driveways will be closed for seven days after the concrete has been poured for curing purposes so pedestrian and vehicle access will be limited as per the Traffic Management Plan.

The job site will be secured with plastic barrier mesh at the end of each day although residents are asked to take precaution for the risks associated in work sites during the night period.

These new works will be carried out over eight weeks and Council apologises for any inconvenience caused to residents during this time.
