Lions Complete $50,000 Donation to Foundation 61
Torquay Lions Club has presented another $10,000 to provide accommodation and program support for two clients at the Mount Duneed rehabilitation centre, Foundation 61, while they rebuild their broken lives.

“The Torquay Lions committed $50,000 to supporting the centre for five years,” President Bill Ferguson said.

“As we are now at the end of this financial support program, we will review our commitment to Foundation 61 and consider whether this is the best way ahead, considering the many calls for support that we have.”

“We have built a wonderful relationship with the team at Foundation 61.

“Torquay Lions greatly appreciate the work being done at Mount Duneed and we are proud to have been able to help in some way.

The Lions Club President said his members are dedicated to helping people who have drifted from mainstream society or to long-term projects supporting children, or one or more foundations dedicated to specific medical conditions.

“Over the past five years, we have been able to assist up to 15 participants and provide accommodation for two of them each year in rooms funded by the Lions,” Bill Ferguson said.

“As well as the annual donations, we have been able to provide a large outdoor pizza oven for the participants with funds raised from the community at one of the Lions’ Annual Bowls Day.

“Foundation 61 and Torquay Lions have become quite a team and we have enjoyed BBQs with staff and members of their programs,” Ferguson concluded.

TORQUAY ROTARY RESUMES FACE TO FACE MEETINGS

After 11 months of online ZOOM meetings the Torquay Rotary Club were finally able to resume full club Face to Face Meetings last week on the 8th Feb. The meeting had an almost party like atmosphere as friendships were rekindled in the Face to Face environment and lots of catch-up chats taking place. The meeting provided the first opportunity for Past President Kelly Binyon to physically pass the baton of the presidency to current President Jan Emmett some 8 months after the “virtual” Changeover event was held.

While COVID has not halted the Clubs Fundraising efforts, they have been mostly via online events with last month’s highly successful Book Fair being the first real “hands on” Fundraising event contributing in excess of $10,000 to go to funding Rotary Projects. Unfortunately our annual Motor Show and Surf Coast Cruise events were unable to proceed due to COVID restrictions which was highly disappointing. A “virtual” Motor Show was held to keep the motoring fraternity engaged but was just not quite the same as the real thing. See some of the winners below.
Members of the Surf Coast Community are always welcome to join in the Torquay Rotary Club virtual meetings held via ZOOM 7pm Monday night to hear some good speakers and have some fun getting to know your local Rotarians. For more go to https://torquayrotary.org.au/
