Welcome to the UKSIC Insider

Hello and welcome to the UK Safer Internet Centre Insider. Every month we will bring you the latest stories and updates from the three partners in the UKSIC: Childnet International, The IWF (Internet Watch Foundation), and SWGfL (South West Grid for Learning).

We were so happy to see Safer Internet Day bring everyone together to discuss the theme of reliability online. The day itself was bigger than ever with millions across the globe taking part and getting involved in activities throughout the day.
Safer Internet Day 2021

Tuesday 9th February saw the celebration of Safer Internet Day across the world in over 170 countries. As organisers of the day here in the UK, it was absolutely incredible to see the range and variety of activities that took place right across the country. We know that with lockdown, the Safer Internet Day celebrations were a bit different than usual, but we are delighted to see how many people got involved this year! Book Your Place For Free Online Safety Events

Online Safety Live events are still happening virtually throughout the UK. Find out what events are coming up and how you can book your place for an event in your area.

The UKSIC has been able to continue offering free online safety training despite the current lockdown restrictions. Remote sessions have now become such a staple part in how we communicate with each other that we are very fortunate to continue delivering online safety training throughout this time.

Childnet Film Competition Officially Launches

The Childnet Film Competition is officially launched – and is once again open to all schools and youth groups across the UK.

Following the success of this year’s Safer Internet Day on February 9th, we are asking young people to create a short film or storyboard exploring the theme of: Separating fact from fiction - finding trustworthy information online.

At a time when young people are using the internet more than ever, we want them to take the lead and create their own short films.

What is Omegle? Key Things Parents And Carers Need To Know

At the UK Safer Internet Centre, we regularly deliver online safety training sessions both virtually and in person to pupils, parents and teachers. Recently we have noticed a lot of conversations about the website ‘Omegle’, and we know parents and carers may have also heard about Omegle in the news recently. IWF Launches Campaign In Uganda And Zambia

All over the world, more and more people have turned to the internet to keep working, socialising, and learning throughout the global coronavirus pandemic. A major new campaign kicks off which will see the IWF, along with Facebook and telecommunications giant MTN, boost awareness of its designated reporting portals in Uganda and Zambia.
