Working together for a healthy,
connected catchment.
Dear members, friends and supporters,
B4C General Meeting
Wednesday 17th March, 10am
Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee's General Meeting is this Wednesday morning at our headquarters in Carindale.
We welcome all B4C members to attend. You don't have to actively participate in the meeting, you can just join the audience and get an update on activities in your catchment.
It's also a great opportunity to browse our nursery, new sustainable garden (sponsored by Urban Utilities), book swap and Boomerang Bags. You might want to bring your spare change!
RSVP: If you will be joining us, please let us know via b4c@bulimbacreek.org.au (or simply reply to this email). This will help us with setting up the room and organising refreshments.
Brisbane Catchments Network
World Science Festival "Open Day"
Saturday 27th March, 9.30am-4pm
Brisbane Catchments Network has teamed up with World Science Festival to have displays and activities at the B4C Sustainability Centre (Carindale) as part of the festival. Entry to our property is free but you will need to check-in via the COVID-safe facility at the front gate.
Come and see the water-wise Sustainable Garden (sponsored by Urban Utilities). There will be stalls and displays to see and it's a great chance to ask your plant & soil questions of our nursery volunteers. The workshops on the day have almost all sold out, but you can still visit on the day to have a look around our centre and say hi to various Brisbane catchment groups (including us!), Birds QLD, Pollinator link & Boomerang Bags. Thanks to Carindale Rotary who will be running a BBQ on the day. Bring some cash along!
And the festival fun continues on the Sunday morning 28th March at 8.30am with a planting in Minnippi (meeting at Kate St, Carina) and a planting at 7th Brigade Park, Chermside. Thanks also to Brisbane City Council for supporting these planting events.
The BCC Draft Brisbane Off-Road Cycling Strategy
is on the wrong track!
Add your voice - SIGN THE PETITION
Brisbane’s natural areas and reserves lay at the heart of our reputation as a “Biodiverse City”. Our nature reserves are essential community-valued areas, where anyone can go for a quiet and rewarding experience of nature and wildlife. This experience is put at risk by high impact recreational activities.
The scope of the proposed increase in off-road cycling as indicated in the plan covers most of the natural reserves in Brisbane with at least 27 natural area parks listed, of which 85% is core koala habitat and 39% is core habitat for other ENVT species. This vastly increased use will inevitably compromise the primary conservation purpose of these reserves.
Thanks to everyone who sent council a submission.
It's also been great that you've been letting your local members know your concerns.

(you will be sent a confirmation link afterwards that you must click to make it valid).
Concerns about the draft strategy, include:
No proof of assessing increased environmental impacts of off-road cycling
Erosion assessment or core habitat mapping has not been undertaken
No reserves have been marked as prohibited
Does not commit to eliminate illegal and damaging off-road track construction
Fails to provide increased enforcement for illegal uses
It does not protect the primary purpose of conservation reserves and other vital green space assets.
Have a browse of our online store for unique items that give back to the local environment. Our Boomerang Bags crew not only keep fabric out of landfill and help to reduce the environmentally intensive production of new materials. They also regularly donate to the Bulimba Creek Environment Fund. You can also purchase local honey and books. Our online shop allows you to pay securely via credit card or Paypal.
