Ohio Civil Rights Commission Presents
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Contest Awards

COLUMBUS, OH, February 24, 2021 - On February 25, 2020 the Ohio Civil Rights Commission (OCRC) will recognize the winners of the OCRC 2021 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Art, Essay & Multimedia Contest in a virtual ceremony.

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Art, Essay & Multimedia Contest is open to all Ohio students in grades 6 - 12. This year's contest theme asked students to submit work about when they persevered and were able to keep moving forward. OCRC received hundreds of entries, but only fifteen entries were chosen as winners. "We are very excited to celebrate these talented students. Their work is a great example of Dr. King's legacy," said OCRC Chair Lori Barreras.

The ceremony will also celebrate Noel Ang, teacher at Columbus Collegiate Academy - Main, and winner of the 2021 Excellence in Teaching Diversity Award. The Excellence in Teaching Diversity Award is given to an Ohio grade 6-12 teacher who demonstrates exemplary dedication to diversity and teaching the lessons of civil rights in the classroom.

Thursday's video will be presented live at the Ohio Civil Rights Commission meeting at 10:00am on February 25 and as an on-demand video via YouTube. Individuals can view that video on the Ohio Civil Rights Commission's contest website after 10:00am on February 25.
