Hello

The Covid pandemic has created unprecedented challenges for the labour market with whole sectors facing an uncertain future. This is all against the backdrop of Universal Credit – the largest shake up of our benefits system for a generation.

To meet these challenges, the DWP is investing heavily in new programmes to ensure affected claimants can be supported back into work as quickly as possible.

Through these difficult times, over 200 organisations already trust us to provide them with accurate, impartial information on benefits, financial incentives and budgeting, so they in turn can provide effective advice and guidance to the people they support on a daily basis.

We've enhanced our tools to be Restart ready

Below we outline how our tools complement Restart delivery models and performance requirements, with the goal of helping you optimise your employment support.

The Better-Off Calculator (BOC) - supporting participants back into work

Informing participants of the impact on benefits of moving into work is a mandatory element of Restart. Many participants will face the prospect of transferring into new occupations and will want to feel confident they are making the right decision based on the available financial incentives.

Available both as adviser-led or self-service options the BOC provides quick, accurate and reliable benefit entitlement calculations to support each individual journey back into work. The self-service module ensures you can empower your participants to manage their own journeys back into sustainable employment.

The tool will be fully updated to reflect any benefit changes in the forthcoming budget as we are always up-to-date with the latest legislation.

Improve your delivery efficiency and save valuable time

By integrating our BOC into your chosen Case Management System we can ensure all participant records are accessible and retrievable from one place. We can also provide automated ‘what-if’ calculations on all jobs considered without having to re-enter the details every time.

This will allow quick comparisons to be made on the financial benefits of different job opportunities and, critically, will save valuable time for front-line advisers to focus on supporting participants to achieve job outcomes.

Maximise participant sustainability and achieve earnings outcomes

We also offer a budgeting tool, which can be used stand-alone or integrated with the BOC. The tool allows advisers to prepare participants for the transition away from benefits and ensure they don’t drop out of work because they’re faced with unexpected financial challenges, particularly during the early stages of their new job. This will maximise the resilience and sustainability of your caseloads and support achieving the required earnings outcomes more quickly.

Build your evidence base and find out what works

The DWP are expecting providers to use data to develop further insight into ‘what works’ when delivering large scale employability programmes.

We capture a significant amount of valuable data and we can make these datasets available for you to use as part of your analytics on programme delivery. This will help you improve your service delivery over time, including how to approach supporting different sub-groups such as 18-24s or 50+.

We would be delighted to discuss how we can support you in building your evidence base and identifying what will allow you to maximise performance across the whole Restart programme.
