Covid -19 Vaccine rollout in Alberta

Alberta's vaccination program has begun. The program consists of three phases. The first phase was in December where vaccines were offered to acute care facilities in Edmonton and Calgary. Phase 1 started between January and March where vaccinations were available to heath care workers, home care workers, residents of long term care and supportive living, and First Nation, Inuit and Metis persons born in 1956 or earlier living in a First Nations Community or Metis Settlement. Seniors born in 1946 or earlier were also in this phase.
Phase 2 opened March 10 which includes groups of people who can receive the AstraZeneca vaccine. This means that Albertans born between 1957 to 1971 and FNMI persons born 1972-1986 are eligible to receive the vaccine. Phase 2, Group A is starting March 15, where people born between1947-1956 are eligible. FNMI people born 1971 or earlier are also eligible.
After Phase 2A is complete, people will be put into Groups 2B, 2C, and 2D according to risk of underlying health conditions.
Phase 3 will begin in Spring or Early Summer and roll out is targeted to the general public.
Remember many Albertans will require a second dose to complete their vaccinations, these are to follow 42 days after the first dose for those with appointments prior to March 10. For the rest, the second dose will be up to 4 months after the first dose.
The goal is to have as many people vaccinated in an effort to control the virus. We will need to be vigilant and continue to follow the health measures for some time to come. Take care everyone and stay safe.

Physical activity and mental health

What type of activity might help your mental health?

Being active will improve your mental health. Choose an activity that you enjoy and one that fits into your daily life. It tends to be easier to become active and stay active and thus you are more likely to experience benefits to your mental health. There are lots of things you can do, give yourself some encouragement to try a few of these.

*Try to sit less, set your alarm to remind yourself to get up and move around a bit.
*Try some Chair-based exercises, here is a link
*Dance to music or follow a dance routine on Youtube
*Pretend to play a sport as you move around the house like indoor speedskating with socks on your feet.
*Do an online activity program, perhaps Zumba Gold or Yoga.
*Do active household tasks.

Start off slowly, it may take a while to get your energy up but better than doing too much and feeling tired. Remember walking, running and cycling are great choices for physical activity - they can help you clear your head and can be incorporated into your daily routine. Activities with a roommate or friend may also help to get started.

International Women’s Day Theme: Choose To Challenge

International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women's achievements or rally for women's equality.

A challenged world is an alert world. Individually, we're all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every day.
-Lets choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality.
-Lets choose to seek out and celebrate women's achievements.
-Working together, lets help create an inclusive world.
From challenge comes change, so let's all choose to challenge.
