February 24, 2021

There’s palpable exhaustion in the air.  We’re exhausted from the pandemic and all the grief that goes with it. We're positively enervated by our rage at the hypocrisy of Republicans who sit in determined opposition to Biden’s cabinet nominees, yet remained silent on the lack of qualifications of the prior administration’s kakistocracy. (and acquitted a president who incited an attack on our democracy, and on their very lives.) Those with children are exhausted trying to juggle all that goes with trying to navigate jobs, remote schooling, and the confusing promise of schools' imminent reopening, however that's supposed to look.  Those of us who are single are wiped out from the isolation. And then there's the exhaustive waiting for vaccines to return us to some version of normalcy. But at least this year, there's a glimmer of hope on the horizon.

Still, with the exhaustion in mind, I'll keep this note brief, wishing you all rest, comfort, contentment, and good health. We will get through. Almost there ...

Stay safe, stay well -

Grief Will Redefine What's 'Normal' Post-Pandemic
A "return to normalcy" is on the horizon. But with all the compounding loss suffered over the last year, can we really go back to pre-pandemic life?
Have You Checked On Your Single Friends
Vice-President Kamala Harris has. Because as someone who was single till she was nearly 50, she understands it can be isolating to live alone — so imagine doing so through the Covid pandemic.

Black people don't get to reap the glory of simply just being—too many of us have been punished, even murdered, for just living our lives. Dr. Badia Ahad writes for us in her piece The Burden of Black Excellence

Award-winning memoirist Elissa Altman reflects on her intense, instantaneous social-media friendship with a favorite singer—only to be left to try to make sense of her just-as-sudden disappearing act in Lessons From A Fast, Furious Friendship With My Idol.

Kaitlin Byrd digs into our system that chooses easy forgiveness over difficult justice, to move forward and seek false unity, to turn toward “real” issues while leaving the true problem intact in her piece Is U.S. Democracy Past The Tipping Point.
