Lenten Devotional/Study for 2021 from PC USA:

“The Way to Shalom” A Lenten Journey to Peace and Wholeness. This year for the season of Lent, we invite you to reflect upon the gift of shalom, the Hebrew word for peace. In the Bible, shalom can be translated not only as peace, but also as tranquility, security, well-being, health, welfare, completeness and safety. How can we receive this gift of shalom and, in turn, bestow it upon the world?  Here is the link to the study:

Let Us Worship God

Invitation To Worship      In Unison            Psalm 22:23-28

All: You who fear the Lord, praise him! All you offspring of Jacob, glorify him; stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel! For he did not despise or abhor the affliction of the afflicted; he did not hide his face from me, but heard when I cried to him.

From you comes my praise in the great congregation; my vows I will pay before those who fear him. The poor shall eat and be satisfied; those who seek him shall praise the Lord. May your hearts live forever!

All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord; and all the families of the nations shall worship before him. For dominion belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations. Amen

Hymn “Revelation Song”  (Words and Music by Jennie Lee Riddle)

Confession and Pardon

Call to Confession

Leader: God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the gift of the Holy Spirit. Trusting in God’s overflowing grace, let us confess our sin using the words printed in our bulletin, and then privately in silence.

Prayer of Confession          In Unison

Gracious God, our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo. Forgive what our lips tremble to name, what our hearts can no longer bear, and what has become for us a consuming fire of judgment. Set us free from a past that we cannot change; open to us a future in which we can be changed; and grant us grace to grow more and more in your likeness and image; through Jesus Christ, the light of the world.

(wait about 20 seconds)

Assurance of Pardon

People: Alleluia, Amen.

Hymn of Response #581Gloria Patri”

Passing of the Peace (Socially distant please)

Pastor: The peace of Christ be with you.

People: And also with you.

Pastor: Please greet one another with a sign of peace.

Give people time to greet and shake hands with each other.

Prayer of Illumination

First Scripture Reading:

The Liturgist reads the first Scripture lesson with feeling, conveying how characters felt.

Our first Scripture lesson this morning is from the Gospel of Matthew, beginning in the 19th chapter at the 13th verse.

Hear now a word from the Lord.

Romans 4:13-25      God’s Promise Realized through Faith

Pastor: This is the word of faith that we proclaim.
People: Thanks be to God.

Children’s Time      “Grown Ups”      Pastor Tony

Anthem

Sermon     “All In The Family”     Pastor Tony

Affirmation of Faith         In Unison                Phil. 2: 5–11

Christ Jesus, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death— even death on a cross. Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess to the glory of God: Jesus Christ is Lord! Amen.

Hymn #838          “Standing on the Promises of God”

Prayers From and For the People

The Lord’s Prayer

Offering Our Gifts and Our Lives To God

See how the fields are ripe for harvest!
Already, God is gathering fruit for eternal life.
With rejoicing, let us offer our lives to the Lord.

Offertory, Prayer of Thanksgiving

O Lord, you are our God;
we are the people of your pasture, the sheep of your hand.
As you have fed us by your mercy,
may it be our daily bread to do your will;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Hymn #32           "I Sing the Mighty Power of God"

During the last verse, the ushers will return and retrieve the Bible and the Light. They will wait at the bottom of the steps until the Benediction has been pronounced.

The Liturgist will stand beside the Pastor during the Benediction then recess with him during the Postlude.

Benediction

Pastor: May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

People: Alleluia!

Pastor: Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity.

People: Amen.

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ,
spring up like living water, fill your heart,
and flow through your whole life. Amen.

Please come with me for coffee and fellowship.

Postlude

We are getting an Interim Pastor!

My name is John Hougen and I’m looking forward to becoming the Interim Pastor for Temple Terrace. I’m a people person, have a sense of humor, and enjoy being with and working with people. I love new ideas and striving to be more effective in communicating the love of God to people, and look forward to conversations with my new friends at Temple Terrace. Community involvement is a key. You will hear me ask this question: How are we adding value to the community we are in? The world needs to be a better place because we are here.
