Saturday at the Roundhouse

                                               February 27th

     4070
Last Saturday, work was done on the roof support ribbing. This Saturday welding work will continue on the cab with the main focus to finish the structural steel.  The next major step is dropping an axle to facilitate welding work on the frame. The jacks are still waiting to be cleaned, drained and cycled. They will be needed to drop an axle on 4070. Once the weather allows the GP10 paint project to finish up, we will need to prepare the wheel pit for use.  Clearing weather will help us finalize the drawings for the tender.  Some work got done on the plasma table, so we are closer to being able to cut our own sheets quickly.

The Tool Room

The concrete pad is gone and a fresh surface has been poured.   While we wait for new concrete to cure there is a remaining shelf and contents that can be moved out.  The doors and door frame were removed.  Still need some help measuring the footprints of the lathes and mills so we can create a floor plan. We will need some carpentry help on the ceiling. The decking was never extended fully to some of the walls. Some volunteers will be needed to go up and move stuff around and perhaps bring some things down for storage in the containers. The black cabinets have received an extra coat of demolition dust and are in need of a good cleaning.  The equipment itself is also in need of some TLC. Cleaned and oiled. We need some help getting the shelves cleaned and also the shelves mapped out.  Some tools will stay there and some will be moved to the shop.

The Drott
A volunteer has stepped up and begun the reassembly of this vital piece of equipment. If you have some mechanical ability and time your help is still needed.

The America
Volunteers have been working during the week to clean the car, but the car still has a list of chores that needs to get done. Just time and effort needed there. Spring is not that far off and the America is a candidate for excursion service that hopefully will resume this year.

 Odds and Ends
Our lunch room has seen some major upgrades this past year, but still needs a new linoleum floor covering to help keep it clean. The material is on hand, we just need a volunteer with those skills.
Several of our volunteers have created a Midwest Youtube channel. They are in the process of creating new videos, so if you have an interest and would like to help, get in touch.  Our social media footprint has greatly expanded and we can use some help in those areas.

ADMIN
Behind the scenes even a small organization requires a lot time spent on administrative details. Grants and reports need to be written and proofread.  Materials and photos for the newsletter and Facebook posts all need to be compiled.
If you have an interest, get in touch with the board chairman and he will let you know how you can help.

RPCA
The RPCA Committee is looking for volunteers to help out.  A lot of work has been done but there is still plenty of work to do.   We have new artwork and graphic designs for the convention. Contact the office or any Board member if you are interested in being part of this endeavor in any way.

The roundhouse is a safe and compliant place to work and interface with others. Masks are required. Common areas are continually being sanitized for our safety.

Limited Time Offer
We are still accepting donations in accordance with the past two weekends mailing that offers specially designed tee shirts and sweat shirts as a thank you gift to the donor. The offer will probably last until the end of March. These particular items may not be made available in the gift shop  when it opens, so reserve yours now.
