 MARCH 2021

(image title in English:  Cut-throat business in Wall Street. How the inexperienced lose their heads.)

The market, like the Lord, helps them that help themselves... but unlike the Lord - it does NOT forgive those who know not what they do!

Hi <<First Name>>,

What is the FDIC?  The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation is an agency of the US Government that insures participating bank accounts up to $250,000 per depositor.  Did you know you can get twice the protection on a joint account… and much more if your account is registered with beneficiaries, for example as a POD or Payable on Death account?  See attached brochure or the FDIC website for more details.

I know that the polar vortex we experienced a couple of weeks ago was a great inconvenience to many.  I know people who lived like pioneers for over a week without power or water… some folks who still don’t have power 3 weeks later, others who had broken pipes that resulted in water damage so extensive that they are living in hotels right now.  I sincerely hope that the damages are repaired and that the insurance companies step up and pay the claims just as promptly as they expect us to pay them the premiums for the coverage.

Most of the folks I talked to had a good sense of humor through it all and that’s a valuable thing to have.  And if you too find humor in irony then get this, the nonprofit organization that operates the Texas power grid is ERCOT -  Electric Reliability Council of Texas.  That probably sounded like a good name until a couple of weeks ago… now it sounds more like false advertising.

Holler back if we can help with anything.

Adios,

The FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation) is an independent agency of the United States government that protects you against the loss of your insured deposits if an FDIC-insured bank or savings association fails. FDIC insurance is backed by the full faith and credit of the United States government.

FDIC deposit insurance covers the depositors of a failed FDIC-insured depository institution dollar-for-dollar, principal plus any interest accrued or due to the depositor, through the date of default, up to at least $250,000. For example, if a person had a CD account in her name alone with a principal balance of $195,000 and $3,000 in accrued interest, the full $198,000 would be insured, since principal plus interest did not exceed the $250,000 insurance limit for single ownership accounts.
