GATE Parents Group: SAT PREP Course starting March 20, 2021.

The GATE Parents Group is offering the popular SAT Prep Course to help students prepare for the April SAT administered by the SMUHSD. This is a prep course that will cover test taking strategies and practice for the SAT. The class will be held on Saturdays over six weeks and students are expected to commit a minimum of 20 hours over the entire course.

Early Registration from February 22 to 28.
WEEK 1 - a one hour Zoom meeting and a 3 hour diagnostic test (4 hours total)
WEEK 2 - watch a screen cast of how to approach and tips for the Reading Comprehension section of the test. Practice taking a Reading Comprehension section. (estimated to be 2 hours)
WEEKS 3 to 5 - Each week, attend a 50 minutes long Zoom tutoring meeting with the instructor in a tutoring group limited to 5 students. Watch a screen cast each week with concepts for the portion of the test being presented. Take a diagnostic test for different portions of the test. (estimated to be 3 hours each week)
WEEK 6 - Attend a 50 minutes long Zoom tutoring meeting and take another 3 hour diagnostic test to identify progress and further areas for improvement. (estimated to take 4 hours)
Tutoring Sessions will be with 5 students and will be sometime during the day on Saturdays. Tutoring sessions will start on the hour every hour. Students will be placed in tutoring sessions based on their performance on the the first diagnostic practice exam.

Fees include materials. The information of how to pick up the course materials will be sent out to the course registrants before the start of the course.

Scholarships
A limited number of scholarships are available for the SAT Prep course on a first come first serve basis. Scholarships are available for SMUHSD students from households with demonstrated financial need. Scholarship priority will be given to rising seniors. All applications are due two weeks prior to the start of class. Scholarship applications can be completed with the following link: GATE PG Scholarship Form.
