STUDY ON ENERGY SUSTAINABILITY WINS BEST PAPER AT SAIIE31 CONFERENCE
The Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) Postgraduate student, Nelson Mdlolo was awarded the Best Paper co-authored with DUT’s Senior Lecturer and Head of Department of Industrial Engineering, Dr Oludolapo Akanni Olanrewaju, at the recent 2020 online Southern African Institute of Industrial Engineering (SAIIE) 31 Conference.
The SAIIE31 is a peer reviewed Industrial Engineering conference, South African based with both local and international recognition. It brought together the finest thinkers, doers, dreamers and learners in the field of industrial engineering to reimagine making things both better and differently.
The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Midlands Entrepreneurship Centre and Student Desk in partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development; Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) and the Agribusiness Development Agency (ADA) hosted a virtual launch of their Agri-Hub via Microsoft Teams, on Wednesday, 24 February 2021.
This event was facilitated by Mr Zwakele Ngubane, Director of Advancement and Alumni Relations at DUT who said this is a momentous occasion for DUT and applauded the partners that have come together to assist and ensure that this important initiative comes to full realisation. EDTEA has pledged a three-year partnership with DUT and committed an amount of R2 million towards the Agri-Hub.
DUT ALUMNI ESTABLISHES OWN KASI RESTAURANT TO BEAT COVID-19 BLUES
When you see the Durban University of Technology’s Hospitality Management Alumni, Kwanele Makhaye (24), Vuyani Khumalo and Mlondi Khumalo, just call them the BBQ Boys.
This is the name of their newly established restaurant situated in the busy Tom Tom and Malandela Road in Kwandengezi, a township outside Pinetown. They specialise in the American barbeque style infused with shisanyama flavours.
The trio could not return to their jobs due to the eruption and spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The COVID-19 pandemic, its effects, has affected lives of all South Africans and the entire world in both positive and negative ways.
DUT would like to give recognition to its Frontline workers who have been at the forefront since the start of the pandemic. The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Communications team’s, Waheeda Peters spoke to one of the frontline staff, psychologist Candice Leith from the Student Counselling and Career Centre.
