Welcome to our second newsletter of 2021 with February bringing a new set of changes and challenges as well as longer, lighter and warmer days!

This issue focuses on supporting self regulation and independent learning - something of crucial importance at the current time!  You can also catch up on our latest training and events.

Evidence into Action: Episode 2
Managing behaviour and building habits’ is the focus of the second episode of the new EEF podcast, ‘Evidence into Action’.

Host Alex Quigley explores the evidence on supporting pupils to form effective learning behaviours - both in-school and at home - with a panel of experts.

In new 'Voices from the Classroom' video, assistant head Emma Weston discusses how her school has used the EEF's Best evidence on supporting students to learn remotely to navigate the logistics of setting work and maintaining connectedness with their pupils.

Free webinar for all Bristol school leaders exploring the EEF’s Schools Guide to Planning

This free webinar will explore the EEF’s latest publication, The EEF Guide to Supporting School Planning: A Tiered Approach to 2021. Bristol school leaders will have the opportunity to discuss the recommendations for taking an evidence-informed approach to school planning in the current context and reflect on the Guide’s recommendations around TA deployment ahead of the DELTA (Teaching Assistants) project launching in Bristol later this year.

Metacognition and Self-Regulated Learning
Tuesday 15 June, 09.00am – 15.00pm

This one-day event will be led by Tom Colquhoun and Will Smith from the West Somerset Research School on behalf of the North Somerset Teaching Alliance (NSTA).

The EEF published their guidance report in April 2018, outlining 7 recommendations that schools can follow. You will be taken through the recommendations and then have the opportunity to reflect upon your own practice and plan for change in your school.

OPPORTUNITIES

Impact of Covid-19 on primary school starters

This project aims to understand the experiences of children attending Reception this academic year, 2020-21. The EEF are currently looking for schools to take part, sharing the impact that Covid-19 partial school closures have had on pupils and teaching approaches. Find out more.

'The Big Lockdown-Learning Parent Survey'

The Big Lockdown-Learning Parent Survey has just been launched by the EEF, working with Teacher Tapp and Parent Ping. The aim is to figure out what learning is happening at home while many pupils are unable to attend school in the normal way due to Covid-19. Find out how your school can get involved
