Medical and Non-Medical Volunteers Needed to Assist With Teacher Vaccinations

APS is actively preparing for Phase 1B of COVID-19 vaccinations—the phase that includes eligibility for educators. Our district is working with the Fulton County Board of Health on future vaccination events for APS employees once Phase 1B is launched.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! In order to be able to accommodate thousands of APS educators who will take the vaccine, APS will need hundreds of volunteers—both medical professionals who will be able to administer the vaccine as well as non-medical volunteers to help staff the events. Please click here to read APS Superintendent Dr. Herring's blog, which contains information about the vaccination events and how to volunteer.

COVID-19 Surveillance Testing: Consent Form Now Available

Atlanta Public Schools (APS) is making COVID-19 Surveillance Testing available to all students and staff. COVID-19 Surveillance Testing is a non-diagnostic test that detects the presence of COVID-19, even in individuals who may be asymptomatic. While participation in surveillance testing is not required, it is strongly encouraged. The success of this mitigation strategy and our ability to return and keep students in school, is based on high levels of staff and student participation. Click here to watch a video about the test and a demonstration of the testing process.

Participating students and staff will receive rapid antigen tests using nasal swabs. These are not the deep nasal nasopharyngeal swabs that are more invasive. The tests take less than one minute to administer and should not disrupt much of the instructional day. At Rivers, testing will take place each week on Tuesday morning. Any presumptive positives will be notified that same day. Covid-19 Status and Public Health Data for all APS schools can be accessed at:
https://www.atlantapublicschools.us/Page/64958

Parents who want their children to be tested must sign a consent form (link below) that would cover their child for one year. The privacy policy is also included below for your review.

COVID-19 Self-Reporting Form

There are now forms for self-reporting confirmed-positive COVID-19 cases and exposures. This will help Health Services quickly initiate and respond to any follow-up that needs to occur, such as case interviews or telework requests.

Parents/guardians should use the student form to notify their school as soon as possible if their student receives a positive COVID-19 test or if they find out that they have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive. The form should be completed for any student who has spent time on campus (whether attending in-person classes or participating in intervention or extracurricular activities).

Click here to access the student self-report form.
