A New Google Map to Search for Indigenous-Related Collection Items (LAC, February 22)

Australian Parliament Passes Facebook-Approved Amendments to Digital News Bill (CBC, February 24)
This announcement that Facebook and the Australian government had come to an agreement regarding the new law on sharing of Australian media posts on news aggregating and social media sites appeared quickly on the heels of the announcement earlier this week that Australian news could no longer be shared on Facebook. This news is certain to interest (and affect) Heritage Minister Guilbeault’s plans (announced earlier in February) to implement similar controls over the inclusion of Canadian media on such sites.  Read more

Reconciliation in Post-secondary Education Requires Courage and Humility (K. Wilson, Policy Options, February 18)
Kory Wilson, Executive Director of Indigenous Initiatives and Partnerships at the B.C. Institute of Technology, explains that in order to advance reconciliation and create systemic change “the post-secondary system and those within it must start by examining their own bias and privilege.”  We must have the courage “to engage in uncomfortable conversations with ourselves” and “to challenge the status quo, and to re-envision education and the type of society we share.”  Read more
