God’s Arm and our Faith
Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor His ear heavy, that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear. (Isaiah 59:1-2)
On February 25th, the radical Equality Act was passed in the House of Representatives and sent over to the Senate for likely approval there. Far from being about equality, which any righteous person would be for, this act discriminates horribly against women and Christians. It makes it illegal for churches to hire people on the basis of having similar faith, and prevents them from hiring according to any Scriptural basis.
Despite the complaints of millions of individuals against this bill, it seems to be moving forward at an unstoppable pace. I hope by the time this gets posted I am proved wrong, but it looks like it is heading to approval by the President of the United States, who has already confirmed that he will gladly sign it if it gets to him. Many in the nation are concerned for what this means for this nation, but as Christians we need to be careful not to get sucked into the frantic concern.
Hear me carefully here: I am not saying we should not be concerned, but there is a vast difference between godly concern and depressing hopelessness. Our concern should drive us to action. We should be contacting our government representatives to express our concern, we should be supporting those that are actively involved in fighting against this bill, and we should be encouraging our friends and family to do the same. More than all of these things, we should be on our knees, seeking the Lord’s intervention in these matters.
Are we dealing with judgment for sin? Certainly, we do deserve it, but isn’t God the God of mercy? Is He able to intervene? Of course, He can. His arm has never waxed short. But the sin He cannot help us in is the sin of faithlessness. Are we willing to turn to Him and call upon Him at this point? Abraham believed God and it was counted to him as righteousness. Let’s believe Him when He says He is more than able to accomplish what concerns us today, and let’s cry out to Him, looking for Him to show Himself mighty on behalf of those whose hearts are loyal toward Him.
