Hi, all, and happy Thursday!
Whoo-hoooo! More of Biden's amazing Cabinet nominees are being confirmed every day. This morning it was Jennifer Granholm as Energy Secretary, and we have every reason to hope that Deb Haaland will be next. Other than Neera Tanden, in fact, things are looking good for all of Biden's nominees. Think about what a difference this is from the monstrosities Trump put in every seat!
It's important--for me, at least--to acknowledge and savor the victories. Yes, our democracy is still a mess, but progress IS being made. I am convinced that what we focus on grows, so I make sure to take time every day to enjoy the wins.
And, if we keep at our posts, more wins will come every day.
Yes, this is hard. Yes, it's tiring. Absolutely, I'd rather be watching Netflix.
But we owe it to the next generation to keep on keeping on.
So let's do that.

Hi, I'm a constituent calling for a couple of reasons today:
First, I know the House will soon pass a few pieces of critical legislation, including the Equality Act to protect the rights of LGBTQ folks, the For the People Act to repair our ailing democracy, and President Biden's American Rescue plan, including the rollout of a $15/hr minimum wage. I want the Senator to support all of these bills 100%. [If Dem add:] And I absolutely support abolishing the filibuster in order to pass any and all of them. They matter that much. Thanks.

Hi, I'm a constituent calling for a couple of reasons today:
First, I support HR1, the For the People Act, and also the Equality Act, which I know the House will be voting on any minute now.
Second, I want the House to introduce and pass The Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2021. Action on gun safety has never been more critical. More than 100 Americans are killed every day due to gun violence, and the ongoing COVID pandemic has continued to intensify the gun violence crisis. This bill would help save lives and protect communities from gun violence by requiring background checks on all gun sales. This is supported by the vast majority of Americans. There is no reason not to do it. Thanks.

Great news! UberEats, Postmates, Grubhub and Seamless will now require plastic cutlery to be "opt-in" on their order pages.
DoorDash, and Chipotle are next. We're asking them to install an “Opt-IN for single-use plastic cutlery (and accessories)” feature on their applications to provide users with these items BY REQUEST only thereby eliminating much unnecessary waste. This includes straws, napkins and condiments to be available by request as well.
WHY? Because 40,000,000,000 single-use plastic utensils are thrown away/year ending up in our oceans and killing sea-life. Most of these utensils go unused because restaurants automatically include them in to-go orders, even if customers try to opt-out of receiving them.

Hi, I'm writing as a constituent to ask that you vote in favor of the For the People Act when it comes to the floor.
Trust in our democracy has been shaken more than ever before. We’re entering a new era in our country — one that transcends left vs. right and one party vs. the other. Today our fight is representative democracy vs. authoritarianism — and passing the For the People Act will put us on the right side of that battle.
This sweeping bill would:
- Dramatically increase election security and voter participation
- End gerrymandering in Congress
- Strengthen ethics and financial conflict of interest laws for the President, Congress, and Supreme Court
- End secret donations to politicians and rein in Super PACs
- Close lobbyist loopholes
- Dramatically decrease politicians’ dependence on special interest lobbyist money
