Vests - The Outer Layer Variety
|
|
|
We're seeing lots of knitted tabards (or vests) right now, and they are great transitional pieces. Easily layered over a shirt or long sleeve t-shirt.
Choose one of your best neutral colours and enjoy creating lots of outfits with it.
Watch the cap-sleeve of the vest though; if your shoulders are wider than your hips, it will highlight this. Instead, choose a sleeveless design. I love this one from Next, ideal for Lights, Warms & Softs. |

As well as serving a purpose, a belt is a fabulous accessory to finish off an outfit. It's a great way to accentuate the waist and complement a curvy figure.
If you are high waisted, you may find that wide belts do not work particularly well, so try a dropped belt or a very narrow one. Wider belts are excellent for those who are low waisted or have a long torso .
Choose a soft, supple belt if you are very curvy, as opposed to a structured leather. Suede is a good choice.
Contrary to popular belief, a belt will not give you a waistline if you don't have one (sorry!). In fact, if you carry weight around your middle, it will draw the eye to this area. That said, wearing a belt under a cardigan or longer jacket can trick they eye into believing there is a waist under there somewhere.
For a polished look, use a coloured belt to bring the colours of your outfit together.
Belts featured are from Joules. |

There's nothing quite like a wardrobe refresh, than injecting a new colour. Pantone have two colours for 2021: Ultimate Grey and Illuminating. And of course don't forget the colour me beautiful colours for 2021: Orchid and Olive Grove.
So that's four colours that we will be seeing lots over the next two seasons. Of course, I never tell you that you shouldn't wear a particular colour, but I will show you how to wear it. Take for example Illuminating. You may think that a Cool palette (think Jamie Lee Curtis) may struggle with this very zingy yellow. But, by toning it down to a more icy shade, wearing it away from her face and combining it with a cool colour such as Ultimate Grey, she can wear it very successfully.
You don't have to follow colour trends to remain current, a pop of any colour in the right shade to suit your look will always make you stand out from the crowd (for the right reasons). |
