Let the good times roll

Friend

If you’re like me, you’re looking forward to the days ahead!

There will be longer days with more time for recreation and more precious moments to enjoy shimmering sunsets. I’m for anything that “Brings More Light into the World.”
Women’s History Month

With five female keepers, New Canal Lighthouse, New Orleans, Louisiana may hold record for the most female light keepers. Elizabeth Beale 1847-49, Jane Discoll 1850-53, Mary Campbell 1869-93, Caroline Riddle 1893-1924, Margaret Norvell 1924-1932. Norvell served nearly 41 years.

Coastal Tranquility

“Tranquility” flows like an ocean breeze at Sanibel Island. I could say “sanity” since I visited the island by chance on the day of the Capitol Riot.

My tranquil visit to Sanibel Lighthouse on the west coast of Florida truly challenged my sanitized version of Florida beaches.

I walked the shore and visited Sanibel Lighthouse grounds.

Harmony

“Mangroves are magical forests where we discover nature’s secrets. They straddle the connection between land and sea and nature and humans. Mangroves nurture our estuaries and
nature based economy.”

Serenity

Sanilbel Island is known worldwide for its beach shells and laid back lifestyle. the Sanibel Lighthouse was built to provide safe passage between Key West and Egmont Key on
Florida’s west coast.

Collectors Corner
“I know I will love it!” — David
This new collector was excited about buying a print of St. Simons Lighthouse after seeing it in on my LinkedIn. He wasted no time in purchasing the print. Many Thanks!

The Road to Less Stress

Daylight savings time, warmer temperatures and better news, herald good days ahead. So as I was driving south on Florida’s Turnpike, I smiled when I saw this sign:  “Florida Turnpike Stress Free Highway.” What a lofty promise. Yet it had a ring of truth for me.

Hillsboro Lighthouse

While visiting Hillsboro inlet Lighthouse,
Pompano Beach, Florida, I stopped by the statue of The Barefooted Mailman. The statue memorializes James Hamilton who mysteriously disappeared while on duty. The first mailmen worked the barefoot route from Palm Beach to Miami because there was no road connecting the 68 mile route. They traveled by boat and walked along a sandy shore.

Jupiter Lighthouse

My mixed feelings about Jupiter Lighthouse, Florida is probably rooted in the fact that I was told to draw it from the parking lot.  LOL! Talk about social distancing.

Cape Florida
Lighthouse

I painted Cape Florida Lighthouse after a week of rain. I drove to Key Biscayne on a sunny Florida. Standing behind a canopy of palm trees, the beautiful lighthouse towered against a clear blue sky. It was surrounded by mangroves and not condos, thanks to the park's namesake, Bill Baggs. The Bill Baggs State Park was opened in 1967 foiling efforts by developers.

About Me

Irish Heritage Month
I learned a lot about Ireland during my Northern Ireland Lighthouse Tour with the late beloved John Eagle.

While the island of Ireland has been well known for sectarian violence, their love of the ocean has been a unifying force.

The Commissioner of Irish Lights has overseen the lighthouses in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland since an 1810 act of Parliament by the United Kingdom and Ireland. Lighthouses are a navigational tools for all mariners and seafarers regardless of race, nationality, religion, etc.

The Commissioner of Irish Lights is a world leader in innovation. They have a Twitter account to help mariners plan trips.
