March 17, 4:00-5:15PM PDT

Scholarly debates in the field of “Malcolmology” _continue to revolve around the question, who was the real Malcolm X? This talk considers invocations of Malcolm X, or more specifically El Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, in Muslim American anti-surveillance activist networks. In offering the perspective of a “Muslim Malcolmology,” _it foregrounds the place of Islam as a tradition and Muslim Americans as political community in the ongoing struggle for Black Lives
