Greetings from CURE100!  Spring is just around the corner and this is a great time to think about energy audits, insulation improvements and other home energy projects.  Many of our chapters are planning Earth Day (April 22), Earth Week and even Earth Month events, especially Ossining100, Yorktown100, Philipstown100 and Croton100.  We hope and pray that 2021 brings a definitive bending of the COVID curve and provides an inflection point in the hitherto relentlessly upward carbon curve!

CROTON100 EARTH DAY ART CONTEST

Croton100’s Earth Day Art Contest is under-way and was advertised in River Journal North.  All artists in our communities are invited to mail EarthDayArtContest@croton100.org to learn how to submit art, photography or sculptures. Prizes for first place include certificates for Blue Pig ice cream, crafted with locally sourced and sustainably produced ingredients. The winning art will be featured in River Journal North!

CROTON SCHOOL DISTRICT'S ELECTRIC SCHOOLBUS STATUS

The Croton School District’s Bus Electrification Task Force concluded its work with representation from Croton100. On March 11, the Board of Education had a public Board meeting in which Croton100 and Mothers Out Front made public statements in support of bus electrification.

The New York League of Conservation Voters and Croton100 submitted a letter on the subject that was read into the record. Croton100 has done an enormous amount of work researching funding options, pay-back periods and carbon savings of various bus options and has authored a report that has been provided to the School District. Read more about this subject in our latest blog.

SPOTLIGHT ON OUR NEWEST CHAPTER

“Philipstown100 is planning intensely for an Earth Day launch of our program in collaboration with Ecological Citizens Project. We will provide a dispatcher who will register pledges and allocate them to a mentor if they want assistance. At the same time, we are implementing a smooth transition from the old website to the Philipstown100 revised website and incorporating use of the Carbon Tracker application.”

YORKTOWN 100 COMMUNITY MEETING

Yorktown100 held a Community Meeting on March 8th. Our topic was “Going Green with Clean Electricity” and we discussed various options for renewably generated electricity. Jasmine Graham, our guest speaker from Sustainable Westchester, spoke on the Westchester Power Program and followed up with a question-and-answer segment from the community. Looking ahead, Yorktown100 is planning multiple Earth Day activities in April.
