Get take out and donate at the annual Streetzeria Benefit Dinner
Tuesday, March 16, 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.; pre-orders start March 9
Pizza, pizza, pizza! Help celebrate Streetzeria’s seventh anniversary in Richmond Beach and enjoy a delicious takeout meal package while supporting your local neighborhood association. The funds donated to Richmond Beach Community Association will support the numerous events, community newspaper, and other activities and services it provides for the community.
For this event, the food service will be a meal package of a whole 12” pizza and either an organic mixed green salad with house tomato vinaigrette or the popular kale Caesar salad. The pizza selections for the night will be the four most popular pizzas on the menu--the Magnuson Park pepperoni pizza; the Golden Gardens pizza with house made Italian sausage and caramelized onions; the Carkeek Park pizza, which has mushrooms, fresh thyme and truffle oil; and the Magnolia Park, the ever-popular cheese pizza. With the expected volume, modifications or alternatives will not be offered that night.
It is anticipated these meals will sell out. To reserve a benefit dinner pizza package, call and speak to a member of the Streetzeria team at (206) 755-5433 between 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. beginning March 9. The suggested minimum donation for the package, which feeds two to three people, is $30. Payment can be made by credit card, cash or check to Streetzeria. All are welcome!
2021 Scholarship for High School Seniors
The Richmond Beach Community Association (RBCA) is happy to announce that once again it will be offering a $500 academic scholarship to high school seniors currently living in the Richmond Beach community. The scholarship may be applied to the cost of tuition and fees, books or supplies required for courses of instruction at the educational institution chosen by the student. The scholarship will be paid by RBCA directly to the educational institution for the use of the scholarship recipient once enrolled. Qualified students are those who are planning to pursue full-time continuing education through a technical program, community college or a university in the coming (2021-22) academic year. Family members of RBCA Board members are not eligible for this scholarship. The only requirements beyond those stated above (graduating student, residing in Richmond Beach, attending school in the fall) are that the student submit a one-page essay that addresses one or more of the following: (1) Describe an experience of how living in Richmond Beach, and partaking in the various community functions, has enriched your life and the community. (2) Describe what volunteering in Richmond Beach has meant to you. (3) Describe a valuable experience you have had while growing up in the Richmond Beach community. Scholarship applications will be evaluated by a committee based on defined criteria, including the content and quality of the essay and the amount of any volunteer activity the applicant has performed in the Richmond Beach community.
The RBCA scholarship web page contains further information about the scholarship where interested applicants can also download the form needed to apply. The completed form, along with the essay, should then be emailed to scholarship@richmondbeachwa.org. Applications are due by Friday, May 21, 2021. Scholarship recipients will be notified beginning Tuesday, June 1, 2021. We sincerely hope that all eligible students consider applying for this scholarship.
Seeking Treasurer
The RBCA Board is searching for a treasurer. This person will oversee the financial management of the organization. The treasurer would manage the bank account, cash flow, invoices, deposits, reconcile bank statements, etc. Some experience with QuickBooks is preferred. An effective treasurer does not need to be a CPA but will be the coordinator between the organization’s other financial advisors.
The treasurer is an active board member and serves a valuable role to the community. Training will be provided. In the past, the role of the treasurer was a daunting task; the board has reallocated some of the responsibilities to work better into a volunteer’s life balance. Gardens Wanted for 2021 Richmond Beach Garden Tour
This year’s garden tour is scheduled for Saturday, June 5. If you enjoy gardening in big or small spaces, please consider being part of the tour. Social Distancing will be encouraged. Calling for nominations for the annual RBCA Marge Unruh Community Service Awards
The RBCA created the annual RBCA Marge Unruh Community Service Award in 1999 in recognition of the late great Marge Unruh’s contributions to our community. Up to three recipients per year are selected based upon their outstanding service to the community. Candidates may be a person, business, or organization. They are not required to reside in Richmond Beach. Merit-worthy examples include service to the Richmond Beach Community Association, promotion of issues benefiting the community, fundraising for community projects, formal or informal service to others in the community or beautification projects in the community. Award winners from 10 years ago who have continued to make positive contributions may be nominated again. Recipients will be announced in May. https://richmondbeachwa.org/serviceaward
Richmond Beach Celebration – Supporting Local Businesses
For many years, the Strawberry Festival has been part of the Richmond Beach Celebration taking place over Mother’s Day weekend. This year, while we are still recovering from the pandemic and unable to have an event in the park, the Richmond Beach Community Association (RBCA) would like to extend the Richmond Beach Celebration through the whole month of May as a way of giving back to the community.
To do this, we want to hear from you. Do you have an idea or a suggestion on ways the community can support your business? The RBCA is planning on creating a Bingo type card to inspire community involvement with activities for the month. Would your organization want to be on the card? This is a time for the RBCA to support all the businesses, people and places that have supported the RB community, time and time again. ShoreLake Arts invites you to submit your creations to their annual Edible Book Festival, virtual for 2021. Submissions are accepted until March 26. People’s Choice Vote runs from March 27 – 28, with winners announced on Facebook Live at 5 pm.
Longing to get outside?
Kruckeberg Botanic Gardens (20312 15th Avenue NW) is open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 10 am – 5 pm. Spring Youth Programs begin this month, too. These youth nature clubs are a great opportunity for youth to get outside, explore nature, and get dirty through hands-on learning, art, and play. Registration is now open.
The Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Senior Center is providing essential services with one-on- one programs and Zoom classes and activities. For a monthly schedule, visit the Center’s website and check their Facebook page for updates.
Shoreline Community College Continuing Education is an open learning community that offers affordable, non-credit courses for those who are interested in short term personal enrichment and professional development opportunities. There is still time to register for winter classes. Some are included below, but be sure to check the complete and varied listing on their website.

Shoreline Proposition 1 Informational Presentations
Shoreline City Council has placed a bond measure, Shoreline Proposition 1, on the April 27 special election ballot. Approval of Proposition 1 will allow the City to make improvements to eight Shoreline parks and to purchase and improve new park land. The City would issue up to $38,500,0000 in general obligation bonds to be paid back through an increase in property taxes.
