10am K12 Data Science as a Foundation for EquityRSVP
🚸🍎 This presentation will discuss Bootstrap: Data Science, a free Data Science curriculum that has operated at national scale since 2017. We'll share some of the lessons learned from various implementations in small summer programs all the way to launching a cohort with the New York City DOE, as well as DOs and DONTs that any teacher, administrator, or curriculum designer should keep in mind.

 

11am You Can Build It! - Going from Spreadsheets to Airtable to AppsRSVP

12pm Environmental advocacy Meets Emerging Technology: A Bottom-up Approach to Environmental Engagement Projects RSVP
♻️🌬️ This workshop will take a deep dive into how community-based organizations in NYC are already leveraging the power of open-source technology to learn about their air quality, and how they are taking steps to improve it. 

 

1pm Open Green Map 2 - OGM2 and YOU - RSVP
🌲🗺️Green Map System and the GIS Collective will introduce the new open mapping platform designed for community users charting sustainability, nature and culture.

 

2pm Pushing the Envelope: Zoning Analysis in 3D RSVP
🔬⛑️This Open Data Week presentation will cover NYC zoning basics, demonstrate what we do, how we do it and discuss the ongoing challenges of working with complex, nuanced, and ever-changing data sets.

 

2pm Introducing NYC’s Open DataRSVP
👋🧰 This workshop will introduce you to the fundamental terms and processes needed to understand NYC’s open data. Additionally, we will orient you to several nyc open data tools to help inform your decision-making.

 

3pm Dive into U.S. Census Bureau Data Surveys and data.census.gov RSVP
🧮🖥️ Join us as we share ways to meet your data needs through our user friendly portal and learn about upcoming 2020 Census Data Summits. We will also showcase results related to our Covid 19 data resources including recent Pulse Surveys.

 

4pm Intro to Python and Data Visualization using NYC Open DataRSVP
🗽🔩 The workshop will give attendees the tools they need to create complex and beautiful data visualizations with NYC Open Data using the Altair library, while also serving as an introduction to coding in Python. We’ll cover Python basics before diving into DataFrames, HTTP requests, JSON and other data storage styles, and data visualizations.

 

4pm Data x Public Interest Tech: Making the Case for Diversity and Inclusion RSVP  
📲🧠 Come learn about how the data we collected make the case for stronger diversity and inclusion and the needed transformations in this field. We’ll also open it up to the community to discuss what this means to you and for the greater public interest tech ecosystem.

 

5pm Empowering insights with open geospatial data RSVP 
🗺️🔢 During this event, you will learn about innovative sources and applications of open geospatial data on a global scale. Members of William & Mary’s AidData research lab and the geoLab will discuss three sources of data aimed at empowering insights leveraging geospatial information.

 

5pm Happy Half-Hour with Open Data Week RSVP 
🍸👋 Mingle with the Open Data Week team and fellow festival attendees at a daily happy half-hour in a virtual 2d space! Meet new people and reconnect with old friends. 6pm #SystemsThinking NYC: Leveraging Culture to Collect Powerful DataRSVP 
📊🏛️ This workshop will explore the possibilities that digital tools and strategies can open up for private-public partnerships to engage communities in service design and technology. How can we create content architectures that reward citizens for their participation and collaborate with digital brands to create informative and accessible visual surveying tools?

 

6pm Women in Analytics: Making Data-Driven DecisionsRSVP 
👩‍💻👩‍🔬 We're excited to bring together leaders for a conversation spanning from freelance to full-time professionals. These creative and inspirational womxn will share their stories on how they got to where they are today and share their insights into being a womxn in data.

 

6pm Design Your City Project Gallery and Discussion RSVP 
📓♻️ Come and learn about the proposed built environment design solutions developed by CUNY students in the Design Your City program. Projects include community economic development in East Harlem, recreation space by Flushing creek, a community space addressing food insecurity in Brownsville, and more.

 

6pm Interview Prep Group for Data Professionals RSVP 
👜💼The Interview Prep Group for Data Professionals has been an ongoing, weekly virtual meet up since September 2020. In this meet up, we work on 3 interview style questions as seen in data science, data engineer, data analyst and business intelligence engineer interviews.

 

7pm Who Pays? Exploring New York Political Donors RSVP 
💰🗳️Participants will be able to ask and answer questions about politicians and donors they are interested in using cleaned and matched data from the New York State Board of Elections. SQL knowledge will enrich this experience, but everyone who is interested is welcome!

 

7pm Using Open Data for Grassroots Hyperlocal COVID Response RSVP 
🦸‍♀️👩‍⚕️This is a great event for civic technologists and grassroots organizers interested in leveraging open data for emergency response. Our panelists will include data designers and healthcare workers as well as local and national labor organizers.

💡 Join Public Advocate Jumaane Williams this Friday to discuss the role of Open Data in bringing transparency and accessibility to government. How can technology, data and design help communities build impactful and equitable solutions to the issues they face? 

🦊 Have you met our friends and allies at #MozFest? BetaNYC has joined the Cities Coalition for Digital Rights and UN Habitat to instigate a Digital Rights Helpdesk connecting officials and workers in city governments with advisors on ethical AI and digital rights. How would you use such a hotline? On March 17 join us to share your perspective as a potential end user OR advisor.
