ABOUT OUR WORKSHOPS

Our 2 hour workshops provide an introduction to the legal elements and social implications of the Rights of Nature movement. The workshops include several presentations, a 10 minute tea break and plenty of time for questions and discussion.

In each workshop we explore the following topics:
* What are 'rights of nature' and 'legal personhood for nature' laws? How do they work, and how do they fit within the emerging field of 'Earth laws'?
*Where are rights of nature and legal personhood for nature laws currently operating around the world?
* How are these legal developments different from current environmental law? Do they make any difference? What are the criticisms about rights of nature laws?
* Can these laws be created in Australia?
* What role can communities play in catalysing rights of nature laws in Australia?
* What role could different levels of Australian government (Federal, State and Local Councils) play in implementing Rights of Nature laws?

Please note: Special workshops will be held shortly, featuring Indigenous and First Nations speakers from Australia and around the world, discussing Rights of Nature from Indigenous peoples' perspectives

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Anyone and everyone who's interested in this topic should join one of AELA's workshops. They are aimed at a general audience, as well as people with a legal background. All legal terms will be clearly explained and demystified.
