Celebrating International Day of Forests this month with Fonta Flora Brewery & by planting trees

Since we are surrounded by DuPont State Recreational Forest and Headwaters State Forest it seems only fitting we celebrate International Day of Forests for a month.

Last month we celebrated Black History Month by bringing in the products of NC-based Harlem Distributors. We enjoyed new beer from Harlem and Space Way Breweries and non-alcoholic beverages from the B Farmers Hub. These products represented our top sales for February and we are grateful for your support.

So, in honor of forests we looked for a North Carolina brewery to highlight this month and we are excited to announce we have an impressive inventory of Fonta Flora Brewing beverages! I mean how much better of a brewery can you find to celebrate forests! Not only is the name of their brewery perfect but their commitment to brewing with local products and quality is stellar.

In addition to honoring Forests by supporting a NC business, we are also planting 3 native trees for the community to enjoy! The world can always use more trees, fonta and flora.

Part of the adventure of being a partner in a beer-centric business like the Cedar Mountain Canteen is exposure to new brewers and their offerings. That, of course, includes a requirement to become familiar with their wares so we may provide recommendations to our customers.

Full disclosure… I’m a hop guy. IPAs and hoppy pale ales of all sorts are what I gravitate to. When we decided to bring Fonta Flora beers in, their IPAs were of particular interest to me and they didn’t disappoint. We do have a number of customers that have a leaning towards stouts and wits. We brought in Fonta Flora Whippoorwill to see if it might fit that area of interest.

I girded myself for the “I’ll try it to know what I’m talking about but herbal wit is not likely to be something I’d choose left to my own devices” obligatory tasting. Tasting FAIL! It’s fantastic. The earl grey tea and coriander take on some properties one might expect from hops and the oranges bring in the, now common, citrus attributes many IPAs have adopted. That all in a 4.5% ABV that makes it even more accessible. In my case, the 16oz serving made it an excellent share with dinner. I’m sure a little more “research” will reveal good food pairings this seems to scream for.

We are opening for on-site consumption April 17th!

We are excited to announce we are opening the beer garden on April 17th! Yipee! For now, our bottle shop will continue to operate online and for those who want to shop at the door, we will continue to serve. We have a huge inventory right now and look forward to seeing you soon! Thanks for all the support of those who have frequented the bottle shop. It has helped us a lot and we greatly appreciate it.

Good to see some no-alcohol options in your photo. The older I get the less I can drink (without suffering too much the next day!) I love the Athletic IPA, good choice! I would really like to try some of the herbal elixirs on the market now, can you get those?

Our goal is to be the community’s PUBlic house. A place where people can come and relax by the river, talk to neighbors and meet new people. While we do have an astounding selection of alcoholic beverages we spend a lot of time researching and trying local quality non-alcoholic options. We currently have 4 delicious juice products from the Black Farmers Hub and recently brought it Fonta Flora’s Sparkling Ginger water. We can tell you by experience that mixing the juice with the water is pretty fantastic.

The Black Farmers Hub does have a true elixir and we hope to bring it in with our next order. It is a syrup that needs diluted. If this is not what you mean by elixir please let us know. We are always looking and tasting.

Here is a fun new beer

Catawba Horchata White Ale

6 - 12 ounce cans

Our Horchata White Ale was crafted as an homage to the famous drink of taquerias across Latin America — and envisioned as the perfect beer pairing for tacos. It also happens that Taco is the name of our Sales Manager’s cat. So, when it came time to name the beer, the idea of a “taco beer” and Taco the Cat naturally aligned. That’s him on the label with the piercing green eyes, dressed in his finest charro suit.

El Gato Mariachi incorporates all the traditional Horchata ingredients into a wheat ale base – along with a healthy dose of milk sugar. An addition of rice in the grain bill lightens the body for excellent drinkability, without sacrificing its creamy mouthfeel. The beer features an enticing aroma of freshly baked cinnamon rolls. It pours a milky straw color, and finishes with just the right blend of vanilla sweetness and a touch of cinnamon spice.
