Free Learning Series, “Little Kids, Big World,” Featured at North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum


BISMARCK, N.D. – Toddlers and preschoolers are invited to the free interactive learning series, “Little Kids, Big World,” at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum. These interactive 30-minute programs introduce children to North Dakota’s fascinating history. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

"Little Kids, Big World" classes are offered in a large public space with social distancing considerations. Each child is provided with their own supplies. Visitors are asked to follow state and local mandates and the CDC's recommendations on social distancing and personal hygiene.

The programs are Saturdays and Sundays at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Children and their parents or guardians are asked to meet at the east entrance information desk.

March 6 "Building Dinos." Learn how the dinosaurs in the museum were built, and create your favorite dinosaur with fun materials.
March 11 "Community Helpers." Community helpers, like nurses and firefighters, put the function into our newly opened exhibit, "Fashion & Function." Search for community helpers in the exhibit and learn how these everyday heroes dress for success. 
March 12 "Bubble Mania." Lawrence Welk was a popular musician and bandleader from North Dakota whose weekly television show opened with floating bubbles. Learn about Welk and his music in the "Fashion & Function" exhibit and have fun with bubbles.
March 13 "Making Masks," 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Masks are popular on Halloween. See masks from the past in the "Fashion & Function" exhibit and create your own mask.
March 14 "St. Patrick's Day." Many Irish immigrants settled in North Dakota. Learn about the Irish and make a St. Patrick’s Day craft.
March 20 "Cowboy and Cowgirl Fashion." Pretend to be a cowboy or cowgirl while learning about North Dakota's history of cowboys and cattle culture in the "Fashion & Function" exhibit.
March 27 "Feathered Designs." Discover the different ways people have used feathers with clothing in the "Fashion & Function" exhibit and create your own feather designs.
March 28 "Coal Clothing." Coal mining is an important North Dakota industry, and miners wear special clothing designed just for them. See miners’ clothing in the “Fashion and Function” exhibit and use coal in a fun science activity.

Follow us on Facebook for upcoming dates and topics. "Little Kids, Big World" is led by Sarah Fox, who has teaching endorsements in STEM 1-8, middle school 5-8, and kindergarten, and has taught for more than 10 years.
