Study shows challenges and ways to support women conservation leaders

It's Women's History Month! So this week, we explore some scholarship on women in conservation.

In a 2019 study, Megan Jones and Jennifer Solomon interviewed 56 female conservation leaders and described six challenges they faced and two key ways to support them.

The takeaway from the study was that women in conservation face many barriers to achieving leadership positions and all people have roles to play in breaking them down. Structural supports to help women gain skills or that make organizations more gender equitable were one critical support. Fostering supportive relationships through mentoring, role models, and strong leadership were the second critical support.
