Kids' Art Happening!
April 3 from 12-2pm
In the new Studio room, Saturday, April 3 from 12:00 pm to 12:50 pm and 1:00 pm to 1:50 pm, a childrens' fabric fun workshop where children can create a quilt square that will become part of a community quilt to be shown at a later date. Plus, they will create a square to take home for themselves. Kim Leclair will be there!
Suitable for ages 6 to 12. | Limit of 6 at a time.
$5 to create a painted fabric square to be a part of a community project.

Mothers' Day Necklace Making
Saturday, April 24 from 1:00 -3:00 pm
Cost: $20. Includes Materials
Maximum of 6 students
You'll be making two glass necklaces which will be fired in the kiln. Pick up your finished necklaces on Friday, April 30 - well in time for Mothers' Day!
Registration by Wednesday, April 22 at the Arts Centre.

Message from our new program chair, Susan Parkinson
For the past few months, the Studio has been a busy place every Wednesday with the Forging Connection Group. This group consists of 4-5 participants each week. Their creative accomplishments in the gallery starting May 5th.
Arts Council President Mischelle Pierce has been busy coordinating with artists and budding artists, who are learning glass art with Twin Willows, painting with Shirley Reynold, drumming with Raven Richie, pottery with Roz Ware, and drawing with Jean Kiegerl.
This month, in April, you can experience the joys of poetry reading with Megan from the Library. Admire poetry? Catch the Paris Review interview with Spencer Reece, "Poems Are Spiritual Suitcases".

New show coming: MSS Graduating Show!
We are used to the School District Arts Festival happening in April, and we’ll miss all the action this year because of Covid. So we are glad we can keep up with our MSS exhibition at least! Apr 14-May 2. I’ve seen some of the art coming!

Life is Art, Dance is Art - Avery Warren painted her dreams.
In the first-ever Virtual Kamloops Festival of the Performing Arts, local Merrittorian, Avery Warren, won three first awards and one second award with scores between 89 and 92! She also qualified to participate in the Provincials in June 2021. Congratulations Avery and the Love to Dance team.

$500 Responsive Neighbourhood Small Grants Are Open Again!
The $500 Grant Applications are open again! These grants are accessible for projects that connect people socially or involve sharing skills or talent with each other. Let's see what we can do this year!
Last year, applications from Merritt individuals and informal groups applied for these Neighbourhood Small Grants and created these programs, carried out with all COVID precautions:
Artists painting together in an appropriate space
Musicians rehearsing together in an appropriate space
Dancers giving open-air performances outside the Seniors' homes
An outdoor art workshop creating mandalas
Planning an outdoor street mural by a local Indigenous Artist...

Tourism Nicola Valley Hosting Miss World Tourism Canada in May
Miss World Tourism Canada is a Miss Samantha Sewell, a resident of Vernon, BC, and Tourism Nicola Valley is coordinating her visit to Merritt on May 7 and 8. The Arts Council looks forward to welcoming her as well and will share more information as we coordinate with TNV.
