WOMEN OF BOW HILL
We’re happy to say that throughout its 74-year history, Bow Hill has always been run by at least one woman and always had women on staff. It all began with Ane Anderson, half of the original owners and the couple who planted the first blueberries on this land. [Fun fact: the blueberry plants here are the oldest in all of Skagit Valley and some of the oldest in the United States.] We just discovered that Ane’s sister-in-law Dorothy (Dot to many), along with her husband Gus, were instrumental in founding the Washington Blueberry Commission in 1969 before they took over running the farm in 1972.
Timeline: women of Bow Hill
A condensed history of the women who have shaped what Bow Hill is today
In 2020, a year of upheaval and change, Audrey and Emma became the newest sister-in-laws to help run Bow Hill Blueberries. Audrey is the director of marketing and product development, and Emma is our director of finance and operations. They are bringing a ton of new energy and ideas to Bow Hill! Audrey grew up making pies with her mom & grandmother and is excited to continue the pie making classes at Bow Hill (someday soon). Emma, an environmental engineer, lover of spreadsheets, and bread-baking is the mother of the two newest kiddos to run in the blueberry lanes. Her daughter, Vera, is the oldest at 3, and Soren, her son, is just recently 1. Maybe one day the kids will help run this farm.

BOW HILL - PAST, PRESENT, & FUTURE
HURRAY! IT'S ALMOST PI(E) DAY!
Potted tulips and hyacinth with hedgehog figurings
Lemon yellow & hyacinth purple are such a delicious color combo! So is the combination of fluffy lemon chiffon with a double blueberry crust. Lemon Chiffon Pie is Audrey’s favorite, another recipe from her maternal grandmother and eponym. The tartness and light texture of this filling just yells SPRING!

We’re sharing this new pie recipe for you to try this weekend to celebrate Pi(e) Day along with some other blueberry classics. Tag us in your creations, we love to see what you’re baking up! As always, Rachel & Audrey are on the social medias and are happy to answer any of your pie questions but probably not your pi questions.
