The Fourth Sunday of Lent
March 14  -  March 20

The Fourth Sunday of Lent, Laetare Sunday, takes it's name from the Latin words of the entrance chant for this day, which reads, “Rejoice (Laetare), Jerusalem, and all who love her. Be joyful, all who were in mourning; exalt and be satisfied at her consoling breast!” (taken from Isaiah chapter 66) On this particular Sunday, the Church expresses joy in the midst of her Lenten penance, through the presence of altar flowers, the priest wearing rose colored vestments, and grander music. This spot of joy impels our hope as we enter into Passiontide, knowing that Easter Sunday is nearly here.
