WEBINAR

Climate action in the Hindu Kush Himalaya: enhancing resilience across borders

Watch the recordings of two events co-hosted by Adaptation Without Borders on enhancing resilience to transboundary climate risks in the Hindu Kush Himalaya:

  • A webinar with ICIMOD, the British Embassy Kathmandu and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) of the UK Government on how regional collaboration can deliver ambitious climate action
  • A session at the 7th Asia-Pacific Adaptation Forum on enhancing resilience across borders

"I have taken away a strong sense of both the complexity and the urgency of the challenges to tackle those transboundary climate risks and to find adaptation and resilience solutions… I am personally committed to taking your messages on adaptation and resilience from the HKH to COP26 and I will be pushing for increased regional cooperation on these issues…."

Five years of the Paris Agreement: what outcomes for the Global Goal on Adaptation?

Five years ago, the Paris Agreement established the Global Goal on Adaptation, which aimed to raise ambition on adaptation by framing it as a “global challenge” with “international dimensions”. Could current calls for a reinvigoration of multilateralism, championed by the UN Secretary-General and others, also signal the start of a new era for adaptation – one marked by the global cooperation and spirit of solidarity that the goal aimed to inspire? Read our thoughts and analysis here and on adaptation in the aftermath of the Paris Agreement here.

“Just resilience”, a guiding concept for the EU’s new adaptation strategy

We welcome the strong focus in the European Union’s new Adaptation Strategy on transboundary climate risk.

“The impacts of climate change have knock-on effects across borders and continents… The EU already is, and will increasingly be, affected by climate impacts outside Europe through cascading and spillover effects on trade and migration. This makes international climate resilience not only a matter of solidarity, but also of open strategic autonomy and self-interest for the EU and its Member States… Solidarity across and within Member States is essential to achieving resilience in a just and fair way.”
