The EU and the USA conclude negotiations on agricultural quotas agreement

 

The European Union and the United States have concluded negotiations to adjust the European Union's World Trade Organisation (WTO) agricultural quotas, following the UK's withdrawal from the EU. This is the culmination of two years of negotiations in the WTO framework to divide these EU quotas, with part of the volume remaining with the EU 27, and part going to the UK, based on recent trade flows. The agreement covers dozens of quotas and billions of euros of trade including for beef, poultry, rice, dairy products, fruits and vegetables and wines.

Females in the field: more women managing farms across Europe

 

The number of women in farming has been slowly increasing in recent years. The most recent data (Eurostat 2016) suggests that, on average, 29% of farms across the EU are managed by a woman. But this data masks some considerable differences between countries.

COEXPHAL and PROEXPORT ask for EU funds to advance in the circular economy of the F&V sector.

 

The two Spanish members of AREFLH, COEXPHAL and PROEXPORT, presented an expression of interest to the Spanish government for progress of the sustainability of the fruit and vegetable sector in the south of Spain as part of the recovery, transformation and resilience plan.

Emilia Romagna compensates for the damages of the Asian bug

 

The Vice-President of Agriculture of the Emilia-Romagna region, Alessio Mammi, recently announced that the second part of the compensation provided to farms affected by the damage from the Asian bug will be paid to farmers at the end of March.
More than 11 million euros will be paid to affected organisations. This compensation will cover more than 57% of the declared losses.

AREFLH is a partner of this thematic network focusing on cross-regional knowledge sharing of SMART IPM solutions for farmers and advisors. IPM or Integrated Crop Protection is a tool to achieve sustainable crop production in European agricultural policy. This month to invite you to participate in our survey. Its aim is to assess your knowledge and needs as a stakeholder in agriculture regarding using smart technology in plant protection in Europe

AIAM5 declares its firm commitment to contribute to the success of the IYFV

 

The 39 national and international entities from more than 30 countries grouped in AIAM5 have declared their firm commitment to contribute to the success of the IYFV, including in their annual strategic plans actions aligned with this initiative to value the role of F&V in global food security and promoting fairer, healthier and more sustainable food systems.

The AIAM5 newsletter will serve as a window to communicate the successful and innovative initiatives of its partners and the fruit and vegetable sector, and will show what we are capable of doing great collaborative work.
