We are thankful to the Lord for your tremendous response to our appeal for support to purchase this big drilling rig. We have now raised over £99,000. We had asked for interest free loan to be paid back over 3 years. We praise God for such was your generosity that of the amazing total we only have to pay back £28,000, the total amount received as loans We have 3 years to pay this off when we had expected to be paying back £90,000.
The rig left for Nigeria first week of April and is due in Nigeria by the first week in May 2021.
God is good.

The first quarter of 2021 is proving to be a very busy period in what promises to be an exciting year for TASTE Nigeria. As well as gearing up for the start of the partnership with Tearfund Nigeria this month it has already embarked on a significant partnership with USAID/Nigeria Early Recovery Initiative (NERI) consortium. The first project of the partnership is to increase access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities in 3 communities including a settlement for Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) all in Kaduna State.
The objective of the project is to provide 3 motorised solar powered borehole facilities in 3 locations (Gwagwada, Angwa Gado and Refugee settlement) and lay pipes from each borehole to 6 different collection points for improved health and wellbeing. Forty-eight Health Promoters (16 per community) will also be trained to reach out to a total of 30,000 community members with peace and health messages. An educational aspect of the project will include producing and distributing 16,000 information and communication materials on water sanitation and hygiene in English and Hausa languages. The communities will also be mobilised to build 16 toilets with 16 hand washing facilities (4 per community) to prevent open defecation and spread of Covid-19.

The Vom Project continues but not without its challenges. The locations of the boreholes comprise rock strata which the current small rig is struggling with – roll on the big rig. Also there has been spike in the price of building material.
It is the height of the dry season so drilling rigs especially the big rigs are in high demand. The rig owners are understandably choosy on which job they take on and also set whatever hire price they want. Two of the 4 boreholes have been drilled successfully options for drilling the other two in rocky strata with our smaller rigs are being explored.
The communities have decided where they want the toilets to be located – near the school, the church and the market. These toilets will be supplied with water via a network of pipes from the boreholes. It is hoped that the project will be completed by the end of May and Thanksgiving Service held in the first week of June.
