Dear Friends,

TACAM cordially invites you to the commemoration of the 106th anniversary of the Dardanelles Victory and Martyrs Day with a special talk by Prof. George Cassar. The war in Dardanelles was a landmark Turkish victory during the World War I during which tens of thousands of soilders lost their lives in order to protect their nation. This year, our remembrance program includes Professor George Cassar who will present the British French involvement in the Dardanelles during World War I partially based on his book entitled Reluctant Partner: The Complete Story of French Participation in Dardanelles Expedition of 1915.

Professor George H. Cassar received his Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree from the University of New Brunswick (1962, 1963). He then went on to earn his Ph.D. from McGill University in 1968. During his tenure at Eastern, he has authored dozens of articles and eleven books, which have made him an international authority on World War I and the British politicians Lloyd George and Horatio Kitchener. Among his more recent books are Lloyd George at War, 1916-1918; Hell in Flanders Fields: The Canadians at the Second Battle of Ypres; Trial By Gas: The British Army at the Second Battle of Ypres; Kitchener as Proconsul of Egypt, 1911-1914; and most notably Reluctant Partner: The Complete Story of French Participation in Dardanelles Expedition of 1915. Professor Cassar retired in 2018. In retirement, Prof. Cassar wants to continue researching and writing. He also plans to travel to Italy, Greece, Turkey to visit art museums and galleries, and to explore the ancient ruins in these Mediterranean lands.

Do not miss this event to learn more about our near past, one of the bloodiest campaigns of WWI.

Hope to see you there.

Hope to see you there.

            Sincerely yours,

            TACAM BoD.
