March Community Call ‘Why do some researchers have reservations about preprints? Let’s ask them’

Our next Community Call will take place on March 25 (1pm EDT/5pm UTC/6pm CET) and we will discuss concerns which researchers may have about posting preprints. Iratxe and the ASAPbio Fellow Yamini Ravichandran will chair a conversation with two guest speakers who will share their reservations about preprints:

  • Howard Browman, Principal Research Scientist at the Institute of Marine Research in Bergen (Norway), Editor-in-Chief of ICES Journal of Marine Science, Member of Council, Committee on Publication Ethics, Member, Editorial Policy Committee, Council of Science Editors
  • Seth Leopold, Professor at the University of Washington School of Medicine (US), Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research

Join us to hear the perspectives of those who have concerns about preprints and an opportunity to discuss how they view preprints developing for their disciplines and for science communication more broadly.

Share your feedback on the 'Preprints and Publishing in the Life and Biomedical Sciences' training course

The 2020 ASAPbio Fellows Vanessa Bortoluzzi, Jonny Coates, Gautam Dey, Tara Fischer, Gilbert Kibet-Rono and Aleksandra Petelski have been hard at work developing a training course about scientific communication, preprints and the publication process.

They would very much appreciate your feedback to ensure the resource is as useful as possible for the community. The course syllabus contains an overview of the course and links to the materials for each of the four modules.

You can feedback here or via email to any of the authors, comments on a specific module or the whole course are welcome - please share any comments by April 15.

Why preprints? That is easy to answer! The real question is: why not?

Plant scientist and early career researcher Sónia Gomes Pereira has shared with us why she chose to post her PhD work on plant centrioles as a preprint, and what happened next. Read her blog post to find out.
