Collaboration Brings Wild West Bass Trails to Lake Almanor
FRTMD, the Lake Almanor Area Chamber and the Almanor Fishing Association collaborated this winter to bring the Wild West Bass Trail's APEX Tournament to Lake Almanor for the first time this April 23, 24 and 25th.

FRTMD received a call from Wild West Bass Trail in December and reached out to John Crotty, president of the Almanor Fishing Association and owner of Quail Lodge for assistance.
John and wife Deb hosted the Wild West Bass Trail exploratory team in early January to view the lake and facilities.  Wild West loved Lake Almanor and our people and went to work with local fishermen to find a date for the addition of a new tournament to their line-up.

Wild West Bass Trail brings a film crew and staff to each event to create a great experience both for tournament goes and the community as well.  Take a look at one of their 2019 films of the Wild West Bass Trail Pro/Am series on Lake Shasta.

Tournament attendees will fill approximately 25 rooms at local area lodging. FRTA worked with local providers to obtain rates, availability information and promotional discounts for the anglers. The Lake Almanor Area Chamber of Commerce located lodging for the 15 tournament staff and film crew.  Accommodations for tournament staff are being provided by Quail Lodge, Plumas Pines Resort and Coldwell Banker Property Management. In addition, local restaurant owner, Carol Franchetti of Carols Prattville Cafe will be providing the crew with breakfast and lunch during their stay.

"We look forward to the success of the tournament and the exposure of new anglers to our fabulous lake", says Todd Geer, FRTMD Director and owner of Plumas Pines Resort.
Tourism Association Receives Award
Civitas Advisors named the Feather River Tourism Association their District Formation of the Year for 2021 recognizing the District for "Fearless Commitment to Leadership and Excellence in Tourism".

Says Civitas, "The persistence the FRTMD steering committee, now the Feather River Tourism Association (FRTA), exemplified was the importance that every dollar available to promoting the region was worth the trials and tribulations they experienced over the nearly six-year campaign to secure dedicated funding.
Karen Kleven, an FRTA Board Member and project leader, said “we never could have done it without the ongoing support, encouragement, and professionalism from Civitas.” The Feather River Tourism Association has an approximately $191,000 budget dedicated to increasing demand for overnight visitation to the region, which highlights the many opportunities for outdoor adventures in rural northern California in the Lake Almanor Basin, Indian Valley, Feather River Canyon, Quincy and Bucks Lake communities.

We look forward to seeing great things happening for this industrious and diligent group as they help visitors discover the wonders of Plumas County!"
District Assessment and Brand Strategy

After several months of research and stakeholder meetings, SMG Consulting has completed the first draft of the a 3 year Strategic Plan for the District. Says Carl Robado, SMG President, "Plumas County sits at an exciting moment in its trajectory as a tourism destination.

There is a rich abundance of diverse activities, events and experiences to be had in this destination. Without question, this is a destination with the ingredients required to become a year-round tourism destination."

The Assessment and Brand Strategy provides insights, ideas and recommendations to assemble our region's ingredients as a full-fledged tourism destination. And, as Carl states, "how to share this destination with the world in a thoughtful and sustainable way."

The draft plan submitted by SMG is now under review with the FRTMD Board of Directors.  It includes a thorough audit of existing messaging and brand strategies, website resources, visitor demographics and current industry trends.  Recommendations and strategies for Messaging and Branding and Destination Marketing as well as a proposed Action Plan with priorities to be executed across the next 3 years are included.

Information obtained during the meetings conducted in January and February with key industry stakeholders: lodging providers, restauranteurs, representatives of the arts and culture, recreation and other related industries contributed to the inventory of existing events, resources, challenges, strengths and weaknesses addressed in the report.
