APRIL 2021
Welcome and thank you to my new subscribers! Hit reply if you have any questions or comments.
Here's what's new in this issue:
  • Mothers Day Sale - (Mother's Day is May 9th!) - Mom Discount + Free Shipping
  • Two gallery shows this month where you can see my work and enjoy a Spring stroll in a lively 'hood.
  • March status of my Art journey: new series started
Mother's Day Sale!
We all like Mothers!  Some unique gifts await...Eight of my remaining "Intersectons" pieces from last November have been noticed to bear a strong resemblance to mother-and-child designs.  Each unique piece is on a 10x10x1.5" cradled wood panel and collaged with mulberry paper and foil, intersected with ink.  The 'background' is either gold paint or a contrasting color of mulberry paper.  No frames or wiring are required - they will hang well on a single nail - or can be placed on a surface as standing pieces.

There are float frames made just for 10x10" panels that you can find if you prefer a framed piece.  - These 8 will take the promo code MOM20 to get you 20% off until May 9th.  See them at my online store, jessica-levant-art.square.site under the Mixed Media heading.  I will cover free domestic shipping or deliver them within the SF Bay Area.
On walls and online...
I was very happy to find out just yesterday that my "Keeping Up" mixed media collage was accepted into North Beach's Live Worms Gallery for their next show, TEXTural.  It's another of my 10x10x1.5" cradled birch panals.  The show opens Friday, April 16 thru Sunday May 16 and of course that means it includes the lively North Beach First Friday from 3 - 7pm.
Live Worms Gallery, 1345 Grant Ave, SF

General hours: Wed-Thur: 3-6; Fri-Sun: 2-6
The April show at the SFWA Gallery is called SCAPES which coveres land, city and sea. Perhaps the two of mine that were selected by the juror were eSCAPES.   OK, I hear you groaning. In any case, this one is "I Heart Paris" - which I not only 'heart' but sorely miss visiting! It's a favorite abstract collage that I made last Spring when I was just getting started with this art mode.  It's made with paper, maps, prints, photographs, tickets and other artifacts from frequent stays there, along with 3 franc coins saved from longer ago.  It's also made with love for one of my favorite places in the world.  25x19" in the frame.
This one is much more recent, the first of my 3 abstract landscape mixed media pieces.  I call it This Land because it feels like the America in Guthrie's famous song, but really it's straight from my imagination. I used different papers and foil and a bit of black paint on a painted burlap-covered art board.  Floated in a black wooden 18x22" frame.
The SFWA Gallery, 647 Irving Street, SF is open to the public from Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10:30 - 5:30. Besides wall art, their rotating collections of ceramics, glassworks, sculpture and hand-crafted jewelry are always a joy to behold and very tempting to buy.  I highly recommend a visit to this vibrant inner Sunset neighborhood - so near to where I actually grew up!

And if you do stop in, do flip through the unframed print bin to flip through where you'll find these 4 from my 'nature' collage series.  Each is on 19x13" watercolor paper and mounted on 24 x 18" artboard ready for your standard sized frame.  All feature a piece of my photo art with various papers, tracings, charcoal and sometimes gel crayons. Left to right: Hibiscus, Green Heron, Red Spikes and Baltimore Oriole

New work in March
It's almost a year since I started my new art journey, transitioning from photo art to mixed media. It's been a Shelter-In-Place lifesaver and a joy. Next month I may show a tiny 'retrospective'. Last month I started a new series following advice from a few of my newly-found online gurus.  I challenged myself to work in a very limited palette across several pieces using some unifying elements between pieces.  So far I've done 4 - There may be 1 or 2 more to come before I change direction.  I hope you enjoy them and I'd love to get any reactions that you would like to provide.  Click each one for larger view.  And all my 'squares' get free domestic shipping...
Want to see something

just for you?
You're always welcome to make an appointment to see any of my available art - in Dogpatch, 'face to face' (masked) - or one to one via Zoom.  Browsing is perfectly fine, or asking questions or giving me ideas of what you'd like is fine as well!  Just jump to my scheduling site: calendly.com/jessicalevantart/ and I'll get back to you right away.

At the risk of overwhelming you with links, remember the best way to view all of my available work online is at jessica-levant-art.square.site
(and even though that site does not include unframed prints - I have lots of those on hand too!)
And the swag ...
Get a piece of my art for under $20!  How about a coffee mug?  And for at least all the abstracts, I made masks available.  If you find one you want and it isn't offered as a mask, let me know and I'll tick the box.  I didn't think most of my work made for a good mask, but lots of the latest ones do.  For these and other goodies (need a Levant phone case or shower curtain?), go to my 'retail' site, jessica-levant.pixels.com/  (Of course you can also buy prints there!)
Why do I have three

websites???
1. All my artwork is on jessicalevant.com -- you can browse, search, peruse information, dig through the newsletter archive, check out my blog ('News') and even peek at my travel pix (linked from the News page). In other words a huge site all about me!

2. Then there's my Online Store, jessica-levant-art.square.site which is for original, one-of-a-kind mixed media collages, framed (but if you want them unframed, ask me for the discount code) plus all the framed photo art that I actually have on hand now!  I will deliver within the SF Bay Area, or you can pick it up - curbside or in-studio as you like.  If you're further away, contact me and we'll talk about shipping.

3. But wait - there's more!  There''s my Print-on-Demand Site at jessica-levant.pixels.com  where all photo-based works and prints of some of my mixed media pieces, can be ordered in many different sizes, on a choice of papers, framed or not, or on canvas, metal, acrylic or wood, and then you can check out all manner of products printed with my artwork! This is a commercial platform where you order what you want and tell them where to ship it and it arrives (all without me lifting a finger).
THE CARDS ...
Box of 8 of my 'Painted Bird' 5x7" notecards (blank inside).  The left image is 'SF Shorebirds' and on the right is 'Rainforest Birds'.  Each clear box holds 2 sets of 4 different birds inside and 8 envelopes.  Order them here: Shorebirds or Rainforest. Local Delivery included. (If shipping is needed, that's a little extra).
AND THE BOOKS ...
The two volumes of Bay Area Jazz and Bluesicians, with a total of 251 local musicians that I photographed while they performed are available on amazon.com (fastest way to get them) or online at www.bayareajazzandbluesicians.com (probably a bit cheaper, and takes a week or so to receive them).  You can preview some of the pages on either site. Captured in 2013 and 2014, these books have become collectors' items.  75% of the included musicians are still performing in the Bay Area. [Sadly, two of the images recently got used for obits.  First, Sax player, Jerry Logas, and then Bassman, Dean Reilly, both of whom have played with the biggest and best  around the country in their time.  They are seriously missed.] The books can also be purchased at Glen Park's Bird & Beckett Books & Records or The Jazz Conservatory bookstore in Berkeley - or from me directly if you prefer.
