Spring Electronics Recycling

April 17th, 2021

What should you expect during the E-Recycling event?

The E-Recycling events make a huge impact on our community and are very easy to participate in! The event area is typically staged in a large parking lot with cars lining up along drop-off zones that are manned by our friendly volunteers who take the recycling out of the vehicle for you! Most participants are in and out of the event area within 5 minutes.

Time to plan your summer garden

Let's make it easy!

Ah, the False Spring! It has us digging up old plans and starting seeds! But before you plant beans in March, head over the UGA Extension resource page and check how to prep your garden for true spring. It is always a good idea to test your soil! You can do it through the AG Center using their Soil MailBox!

Did you know we have a garden section at KeepCarrollBeautiful.org, too?

Community Gardens

KCB can help!

Whether starting a new community garden or looking for seeds for an existing one, KCB is here to help. We can provide simple tools and seeds or seedlings, and help you choose the best plants for your location. KCB is also looking for a few more groups or individuals to Adopt-A-Bed in the Knox Park Community Garden in Carrollton.

Huge thank you to Southern Home & Garden/ACE for donating a big batch of seeds to Keep Carroll Beautiful!

Hard to Recycle Items

Household Recycling Program

On March 3rd, 2021, we have officially closed our 2019/2020 Household Recycling cycle! In the last 12 months, KCB sent off to recycling facilities:
  • 1,200 lbs of alkaline, ni-cad, and lead-acid batteries, with 600 lbs more waiting for the May 15th Hazardous Waste Amnesty Event.
  • Four 55-gallon drums full of crushed fluorescent bulbs - the equivalent of 5,400 4ft bulbs!
  • 300 8ft fluorescent bulbs; 2 boxes or 400 curly (CFL) bulbs, and 500 HID bulbs.
  • 464 gallons of latex and oil paint.
  • The Fall Electronics Recycling event generated 28,000 lbs of e-junk.
The only items currently accepted at our office are batteries. We kindly ask that you make an appointment to drop off and pre-sort the batteries into alkaline, ni-cad, and lead (Pb mark on the battery). Lithium batteries may be dropped off at any Home Depot or Lowe's store. Check what to do with other items in our guide: How do I recycle…?

KCB would like to thank CEMC Foundation and Operation Roundup for funding the 2020 Household Recycling Program! Please sign up for Operation Round Up today and help local non-profits!

Southwire has completed its new Solar Canopy Project!

The new solar canopy, electric vehicle charging stations and solar picnic tables are visible demonstrations of Southwire’s commitment to carbon zero through its actions and products. The renewable energy generated from the solar canopy is connected to the campus electrical system, which feeds the EV charging stations. The solar picnic tables collect energy from the sun in solar panels integrated into the umbrella. This electricity is stored in a battery system which provides power to operate built-in lighting over the table and to charge laptops, phones, and other devices.

MTB Trails coming to West Georgia

Carroll County is right in the epicenter of the new biking boom - Mountain Biking! The sport is gaining popularity and providing a great opportunity to exercise and explore. Modern trails can be fast and fun, allowing kids and older adults to get off the beaten path without having to deal with technical sections or long climbs. Most parks offer multiple trails with various difficulty levels.

Bonus: Almost all MTB trails double as walking/hiking trails! Pay attention when visiting, hikers often travel against the bike traffic.

The Carrollton MTB Trails are a Carrollton City Parks project made possible by a grant from Alice Huffard Richards Fund.

2020 MTB Summer Camp held by Coweta Recreation Department at Brown's Mill Battlefield Park in Newnan, GA.

The two new Carroll County MTB trails are being constructed in Moore's Bridge Park and behind the Castle Playground in Carrollton. Follow MTB Atlanta, the non-profit behind the builds, on Facebook and Instagram to learn more and help build the trails! MTB Atlanta hosts regular build and maintenance workshops throughout West Georgia. You can also help by picking up trash around the trails and rest areas.

Sponsor

The success of our programs and events depends on grant funding, sponsorships, and donations. Throughout the year, Keep Carroll Beautiful partners with local businesses and organizations to work towards the goal of a clean, green, safe, and beautiful Carroll County

Through Electronics Recycling, Paint Recycling, Tire Recycling, Paper Shredding events, the resident of Carroll County were able to reduce their impact on the environment and divert tones of hazardous materials from the landfills. Thanks to sponsorships from business partners - most of those events are free to the public. To ask about upcoming sponsorship opportunities, please email KCB or call our office at 678-321-4816.

Volunteer

Volunteer opportunities with Keep Carroll Beautiful include cleanups, tree or garden plantings, help with recycling events, and in-office clerical tasks. Our programs work for all ages and abilities and can fit most schedules. Whatever your lifestyle - we can find a perfect volunteer opportunity for you!

Office Status:

Closed to Walk-ins / by Appointment

To protect our staff and board members, we require visitors to wear a mask when visiting the KCB Office. You may reach us by email at info@keepcarrollbeautiful.org or call, Wednesday to Friday, from 10 am to 2 pm, at 678-321-4816.

If you need to schedule an Adopt A Road cleanup or need an event recycling container - we will be happy to set an appointment for pickup that follows current COVID19 recommendations!
Please do not leave any recyclables in the back of KCB office!

Keep Carroll Beautiful strives to be the information hub for all things recycling in Carroll County. While we may offer programs and recycling events for specific items, we no longer accept recyclables that can be easily dropped off at locations throughout the county.

While we appreciate the effort to do the right thing, leaving bulbs and batteries in the back of our Dixie Street office often ends up with broken glass and creates health hazards to our staff. We are working on restarting some of the collection programs, but in the meantime, we are not accepting any items at our office.
