Hi. Here's the news.
UA clubs are nervously looking for new members as they near the end of a largely asocial school year. Tuscaloosa County EMA is looking for ways to reach out to communities most affected by COVID-19. And a bill that just passed the Alabama Senate could have repercussions on campus.

Summer students can still request COVID-19 accommodations. Students who have not been offered a vaccine can fill out a form in April asking for accommodations. Relevant medical paperwork must accompany the request.

Black and Hispanic Alabamians are at greater risk for COVID-19. The Tuscaloosa County Emergency Management Agency is bringing in new strategies to make sure vulnerable populations know the vaccine is available to them—and that it’s safe to take.

The Grammys air Sunday night. The Recording Academy has invited Cardi B, BTS, Maren Morris and Taylor Swift to perform, not to mention these five artists whom we're most excited about.

Health care on campus is getting a little simpler. The Student Health Center and University Medical Center will merge services and operations by fall 2021.

The pandemic has made it tough for students to get involved on campus. Even for clubs still meeting while adhering to public health precautions, recruitment has been an uphill battle. And some student leaders are starting to feel left behind.

A new bill could put an ethical problem in the laps of UA counselors. SB 10, sponsored by Shay Shelnutt, will largely ban the use of hormone replacement therapy for minors, and put the onus on counselors and teachers to inform parents if a child expresses symptoms of gender dysphoria.

The Wiggles are all grown up. Okay, well, technically, they’ve always been grown up. But with a cover of a Tame Impala song for Australian radio, the group proved they have range outside of the pre-adolescent demographic.

Tuscaloosans are getting their vaccines—including one column writer. These shots are miracles of modern medicine. “When your turn comes,” he writes, “use this gift.”

What could a Biden presidency mean for college students? One columnist writes that future students, rather than current students, will see more benefits from the Biden Administration’s tuition plans.

Music recommendation alert! One opinions columnist is here to say that there's one album you may have missed in 2020, and it only gets better with every listen.
Here are the off-campus goings-on:
  • A Clanton teen picked up a golden ticket this week on American Idol. The 16-year-old auditioned with songs by Little Big Town and Loretta Lynn.
  • Following allegations of sexual misconduct out of LSU, Les Miles and the University of Kansas announced that Miles will be leaving the school. As of Wednesday, Kansas’s athletic director has also resigned.
  • Joe Biden is expected to sign the stimulus bill into law on Friday. Here’s a breakdown of how you can expect to reap the rewards of the $1.9 trillion package.

Spring Break 2021: We miss you, girl.

We asked some of our staff what they'd be doing for spring break if the c*ronavirus p*ndemic weren't a concern. When they stopped weeping, this is what they said:

Hannah Saad, Photo Editor
"An actual week off instead of a 'mental health day.'"

Leah Goggins, Managing Editor
"A quick drive to Birmingham to hug every person I've ever met."

Mikayla Wyatt, Opinions Editor
"Zip lining in Costa Rica."

Rebecca Griesbach, Editor-in-Chief
"Fulfill my lifelong dream of going to Dollywood."

While it can seem unrealistic to set aside enough hours for sleep in your busy college schedule, it’s important to consider what everything you could be losing when you lose a few hours of snoozing. Depriving yourself of sleep can manifest a range of unhealthy mental health, diet and cognitive issues. The short term issues you experience after a night without enough sleep are issues that are especially counterproductive to have as a college student. Not getting enough sleep can mean you’re not getting the grades you want.
