Primary News 2020/21
Issue 28

Dear Parents and Families,

This week, we see a special focus on PSPE skills as students break into mixed groupings and participate in a special annual event, Field days! Why do we do events such as this? Field Day is a special day of the year for all students here at SIS.  Over the course of the day, you will find students encompassing the IB Learner Profile and exhibiting the ATL’s through play. Students will participate in 10-13 different stations that promote individual, partner, small, and large group activities.  These activities will provide a fun and exciting environment for students to showcase the knowledge and skills acquired over the year.

WASC Visit
The primary school is also very much looking forward to welcoming visitors from WASC, one of our accrediting agencies, next week to have a look at the policies and practices of our school. This is an exciting time for SIS as we have the opportunity to reflect and review on our growth as a school and our next steps moving forward. The WASC team will visit teachers, classrooms and students, as they learn about who we are and what makes SIS a great place to be!

Grade 3 UOI
Grade 3 students are investigating ‘How the World Works’, by looking into how scientists and engineers plan investigations to understand the forces and interactions in the world. This week, they explored concepts such as force and lift by designing and testing paper airplanes, and then using their observations to move through the design process and refine their model to help it fly better.

Grade 4 UOI

Grade 4 students are looking into ‘How We Express Ourselves’ within the framework of how the need for energy sparks innovation and problem solving. In one investigation, Grade 4 students are looking at wave energy this week, and using their observations to re-design a paper cup phone to be more effective as a communication tool.

Musical Concert Series

We would like to offer our sincerest thanks and congratulations to the entire team of people who have worked diligently to organize the Musical concerts that were showcased digitally this week. It truly takes a village to plan an organize such an undertaking, from the planning and practice during music classes, to the extra practice times, to the recording sessions, digital video editing, and the popcorn and movie screening at the end. We hope you enjoy the digital videos that will be shared with you in the upcoming days. We would like to extend a very special thank you to our music teachers, Mrs. Sheppard and Ms. Yang for their vision, organization, and tireless efforts to make these concert events a success. The students performed beautifully and had a truly fun and memorable experience!

Concert videos will be shared via your child’s Seesaw accounts tomorrow.
