From the Principal
Culture is Key!
We had a brilliant evening at the High School Expo last Monday, which was easily the biggest crowd we have had at an enrolment event! Part of the challenge for any organisation is maintaining culture through growth periods. As we look to another year of growth in certain grades, providing opportunities for potential enrolments to experience the culture of PCS has never been...

K-2 Dubbo Excursion
The K-2 students had a time full of laughter and fun on our first excursion for 2021. The production in Dubbo featured a number of beloved children’s books including ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’, as we watched the stories come to life by the talented

performers. A sea of endless smiles continued throughout the day as we had lunch in Dubbo at the Botanical Gardens. All K-2 students should be commended for their efforts in demonstrating role model behaviours to our wider communities.

Craft Club
Craft club is back on this year, with many students choosing to spend their time in this creative endeavour. Puppet making was the first project for 2021.
Stage 1 spent a couple of weeks creating frog puppets out of paper plates, felt and paper, while Stages 2 and 3 made sock puppets and decorated them with hair, buttons and googly eyes.
The students were very impressed with their creations, which went home last week. Stage 2 and 3 even came up with names for their puppets so perhaps, considering the creativity of these students, there will be a puppet show in the future.
Special thanks to Marnie Noakes who has given up her time to help out with these primary craft clubs.

CSSA State Swimming - Primary
Last Monday, Henry Unger, Maggie McConnell, and Kelly and Nicole Ellis, ventured down to the Blacktown Aquatic Centre for the State CSSA swimming carnival.
Each swimmer achieved personal best times in the events they participated in, and it was an eye-opener to some as to the level of competition that occurs at state level.
The kids and parents all enjoyed the event. State carnivals are a lot of fun, so get in early next year practicing so that you might also get the chance to represent Far West Zone at State level.

Hockey Gala Day
Approximately 50 selected students from Years 2 to 6 attended the Hockey Gala Day on Wednesday, 10 March at Cheney Park. It was a fantastic day with students showing excellent sportsmanship, whilst applying the skills they have been learning during their lunch time training! The day was full of fun competition, training drills and plenty of exercise.
Well done to our PCS Hockey team on a great day at the Hockey Fields!

Watermelon Farm
On Friday, 5 March our Year 9/10 Agriculture class visited the Watermelon Farm in Forbes.
They saw the picking, washing and sorting processes.
The students asked great questions and learnt a great deal about a working vegetable farm.
They had the chance to walk through the vines and pick their own watermelons and pumpkins to take home.
A huge thank you to Charlie and Daniel for allowing our students to visit their farm and for showing them around.

High School GRIP Leadership Conference
The student representative council (SRC) participated in the 2021 GRIP leadership conference at Dubbo. The day was filled with enthusiastic presenters that challenged and encouraged the students with their leadership skills and endeavours. High School Expo
On Monday night our Hall was buzzing with students getting the first opportunity in 2021 to show off their work and talk about the things going on around our school. Mr Ballantyne said it well when he spoke on Monday evening that our High School Expo was the first event cancelled in 2020 so students missed out on the opportunity to show the wider community what PCS is all about. They made up for it in 2021 with a fantastic night showcasing key subject areas such as; English, Maths, Science, HSIE, PDHPE, Creative Arts Technology and general school life... continue reading...

Person who inspires you the most and why: All of my friends because I only pick them if they are good enough to be inspiring.

Name: Nicholas Unger.
Class: Year 11.
Quote to live by: You will only reap what you sow.
Person who inspires you the most and why: Many people have inspired me throughout my life, but the ones who have stood out are my family, close friends and teachers. Many of them have already achieved goals which I would like to achieve, which has inspired me to work harder to reach those goals too.
What do you want to see happen at PCS in 2021: I would like to see some more healthy competitions between our houses like sporting competitions. I would also like to see more students suggesting ideas they would like to see happen at school.
What is your definition of leadership: Leadership to me isn’t about telling people what to do but by setting an example and leading the way.
What is something that you want people to know about you: My favourite popcorn flavour is sweet and salty.
Favourite thing about school: I love our small school community, the fact that we all know each other and can get along. I also love that the teachers invest so much time and effort into us students, they could just be doing the bare minimum but instead they want the best for us and want us to achieve our goals.

Favourite School Memory: Playing Sport
Fun Fact: I love going for a walk with my family.
The Best Thing about Working at PCS: The Staff
Favourite Quote/Verse: The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23:1-6 NLT.

Name: Hollie Oates.
Your Role at School: Business Studies, Work Studies, Commerce and English Teacher, High School Girls Welfare, SRC Coordinator and Year Advisor for Year 9.
Favourite School Memory: I remember once having to swim home from school. There was a massive storm that hit just at pick up time when I was in Primary school so we were allowed to take off our shoes and stockings and wade across the water to get to our parents cars. The water was bad on school grounds but it was worse in the street. We lived across the road from the school so we had to cross the flowing river road to get home. As a young kid I thought it was the coolest thing that had ever happened. Even now when I see the streets flowing I want to get out and walk in it.
Fun Fact: I once started a music magazine with my best friends, it mostly failed, but it was fun!
The Best Thing about Working at PCS: The people. Coming to school and working with the staff and teaching students here is the best!
Favourite Quote/Verse: "Always deliver more than expected" - Larry Page.

Rotary Trachoma Project
Marnie Noakes has been involved in a rotary project targeted at reducing the rate of trachoma (bacterial eye infection that can cause blindness) for a remote community in the Northern Territory. She has independently made 50 lined toiletry bags with plain panels on them for the children to write their names on allowing the children to easily identify their own bags. Marnie also added fabric decorations to 50 hand towels and 50 washers to match and go in each of the bags.
The bags are soon to be filled with various hygiene supplies by rotary (which both Marnie and Lucy Noakes will help pack) and will be sent to the Northern Territory ready for the children to use.
PCS Year 9 students have also written letters to each of the children which will go out with each of the bags! Well done everyone!
