What's next for Connect4Success RCT?
An update from Dafydd Thomas, Connect4Success RCT project Lead.

Where has the time gone?  It seems like only last month that the Connect4SuccessRCT team were starting off on this project - and a lot has happened since. Not least the devastation caused by Storm Dennis and the fallout from a global pandemic.

But in spite of all of that, the Connect4SuccessRCT project has been successful in what we set out to do, namely growing stronger links between local public sector buyers and local businesses in the county. Along the way we’ve made some great connections with public sector officers who have been trying to manage wholesale change to their services as they respond to COVID19 and plan for the county’s long term recovery - at the same time.  We’ve also unearthed a wealth of local businesses, energised entrepreneurs and quite simply remarkable individuals who have been tirelessly working to keep their businesses afloat, keep colleagues in work and service the communities in which they live.

It has been an amazing experience to just walk alongside you all during this time.

Our ambitious target to try and grow the foundational economy has been gratefully funded by the Welsh Government’s Foundational Economy Challenge Fund.  All along, we recognised that there was a finite amount of money to get things going - which will unfortunately come to an end on 31 March 2021.

As a team we have tried to find sources of income to facilitate this change and although there’s still time to turn things around, we wanted to keep you informed of progress.

But there’s a great deal to be grateful for.  Through all your efforts the foundational economy is now firmly in the minds of many living and working in RCT and beyond.  We have created an online business directory to inform and inspire public sector buyers - which will be launched during our last Masterclass on Tuesday 23 March [hyperlink for details]. The rest of the website is packed full of information and ideas on the importance of the Foundational Economy and gives some ideas on what can be done to support it.

So come along on the 23 March - for the Business Directory Launch and for more opportunities to connect with local businesses and other opportunities.

In the meantime we will keep you informed of any progress.

In this issue we highlight SamosaCo

What services can you provide to public organisations?
Supplying vegan and vegetarian food, Asian and Indian style food, snacks and meals, Empananda’s (south American). We can cater on an individual basis or large scale, we have supplied catering in to events at the NEC in Birmingham.
We also offer a range of bespoke products, anything vegetarian or vegan, e.g. we’re just about to launch a range of vegan burgers (with international favours) and vegan fishcakes.

Why did you sign up to Connect4SuccessRCT?
Mainly for opportunities to supply the local public sector, didn’t know much about the project but I received the information and was interested to learn more.

What’s the best thing about the community you’re based in?
One of the reasons we signed up is because it’s convenient for us in RCT, we’re based at Coed Cae Lane Industrial Estate. We’d like to work with the community more, we’ve done some community events and we employ people from the local community.
