March 2021
A friend of mine from England recently signed off on his e mail with the closing salutation, “Yours in optimism.”  In these difficult times, it struck me as so cheery and buoyant that I’ve been occasionally using it myself.   Close friends have been skeptical of my new hopeful tone, but I must admit I’m smack in the middle of reading Candide, so my understanding of optimism could be quite muddled.  After I get my vaccine on Saturday, I could easily go back to obsessing over the arrival of the killer hornets.  Which, by the way, would be an awesome name for the Washington Football Team.
BACK ON THE ROAD
Speaking of optimism, we are knee deep in booking the summer tour, and already have about 40 shows scheduled around the country and new ones getting booked every day.  I had an abbreviated tour last year due to COVID, so I’m chomping at the bit to get back on the open road and head out across America and hopefully some of Canada too. Driving through the wide open spaces and majestic landscape of the west has always been a favorite part of my year and I hope to do it every year until they take my license!

If you have a music venue close to home you’d like to recommend, or interested in hosting a house concert, please contact my booking assistant, Julie Draper.   Her email is: Julie_Draper@me.com and her phone number is 603-531-9366.  She will get back to you immediately.   If you’d like to contact me directly, feel free to email me at: scott@scottkirby.com and I’ll then connect you with Julie for details and scheduling.

STREAMING CONCERT FROM EAST MARTELLO MUSEUM WITH CAFFEINE CARL
On Sunday, March 28th at 8pm, guitarist extraordinaire Carl Wagoner will join me for a special streaming 90-minute concert form the historic East Martello Museum in Key West.  This will be a professional production shot and streamed by Art of Sound Productions in Key West, and all donations will go to the museum and the Key West Art and Historical Society.  This is a terrific organization that manages a number of historic sites here on the Island.  If you haven’t been to the museum, check it out next time you are here.  This show will be available on Facebook live at my page.

Before signing off, I want to thank all of you who have viewed my Facebook live shows over the past nine months and for all the kind donations to myself and other musicians you have supported through these trying times.  The number of emails and comments I‘ve received has been overwhelming.  Back in the dark days of spring when everything was closed and I was unable to play for ten weeks, the concerts from the boathouse kept me going and gave me a reason to get up and practice every day and work on new material.  It also gave me a connection to people when little else was available.  I thank you all for that.

I will continue to do periodic Facebook live shows moving forward, but because things are improving so quickly, I won’t be accepting any more of your kind donations unless they are connected to a charity or foundation of some sort.  I happen to be an artist who is fortunate to be very busy in the upcoming year, and fully aware not everyone is so lucky.
                          Thanks for listening!
