Hello <<First Name>>,

Yesterday, I learned of residents in our community receiving several N13 renoviction notifications from their landlord. 2419 Keele Street is a mid-rise apartment building in the Keele Street and Lawrence Avenue area. It is home to 12 families, many of whom have lived in their homes for decades. They are seniors, established in their community and close to the amenities and supports they've come to rely on. They're parents working hard to pay the bills while caring for newborns and helping young children with school. They are frontline workers who we champion and rely on to get through this COVID-19.  After meeting with them this afternoon, I learned that they have paid their rent in full and on time for years, including these last few difficult months. They are tough, resilient, and I can also attest to the fact that they are united.

Their new landlord recently purchased the property and swiftly informed the residents that they are to move from their homes within three months. What these individuals value as their home, is being valued simply as an asset on a balance sheet, and an opportunity to profit. There is no consideration being given to the uncertainty and risk these families could face in the midst of this pandemic, and that is unacceptable. I was happy to make a statement in the house yesterday in support of these families and had the opportunity to hold the government accountable during questions period today. You can watch both of those videos below.

In light of this recent issue, I've decided to host an urgent Town Hall meeting on renovictions tomorrow, March 12th from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. I've invited neighbours from 2419 Keele Street to share their experiences and bring attention to an issue that is affecting people across our community and across this province. It will be streamed live on my Facebook page at www.facebook.com/FaisalHassanNDP. I hope you can join us.

York South-Weston mustn't be left behind in vaccine rollout: Hassan to Ford

YORK SOUTH—WESTON — MPP Faisal Hassan (York South—Weston) said Premier Ford is again leaving behind residents of his riding as the government’s vaccine rollout fails to include a plan for getting the shot to high-risk communities in his area.

“York South—Weston is an identified COVID-19 hot spot and home to many essential workers, many of whom are Black and racialized,” Hassan said. “Residents in my community were neglected by the government in its failure to establish sufficient local testing facilities, and folks are now worried they will be denied access to local vaccination sites.”

A story in the Toronto Star listing more than 350 planned vaccination sites for the city did not include a single location in York South-Weston.

Hassan is urging the government to work with Toronto Public Health and ensure high-risk communities like those in his riding are prioritized and assured local access to vaccinations.

Hassan sent a **letter to Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott and Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa making recommendations regarding local access and accommodation.
