Patrol News

End of season fast approaching

I really can't believe the pace of the 20/21 patrolling season. Part of it was interrupted directly in the face of COVID lockdown, yet as a club we rallied together and returned to the beach when requested. With just over a month of volunteer patrolling ahead of us, please continue the focus on safe practices with distance, disinfecting and wipe down. Our primary role is the safety and wellbeing of visitors to our slice of paradise and of course the safety of our valued membership.

Keep up the great work - more details soon around an end-of-season thank you event.

I recently purchased this retro postcard for Bilgola and wanted to share it with you. Looks like a super day when this image was shot. Some of you will probably have a better idea of when it was taken based on the size of the vegetation on the bends...! Enjoy.

March Past - Narrabeen Beach March 21st

The March Past is an iconic event within the surf lifesaving movement. It has been part of surf carnivals since the earliest days and originally consisted of teams of 20. The March Past is an example of the significant impact returned servicemen had on the development of surf lifesaving and competition in the early days.

In past years, clubs were not able to compete at carnivals unless they fielded a March Past team or someone marching with the club standard. As the teams were comprised of competitors from other areas, carnivals used to stop while the March Past event was in progress.

While the event remains popular, it no longer features as prominently at surf carnivals.

2020 marked 100 years of the March Past. 100 years ago, the Aussie placegetters for the March Past were 1st place Cooks Hill, 2nd Cronulla and 3rd North Steyne. Help celebrate this milestone at Narrabeen Beach on Sunday March 21 where a special Colour Party with representatives from these 3 Clubs will lead the teams out for the SLSNSW March Past event.

Juniors Update

Not a brilliant day last Sunday!   We arrived at the beach at 6.30am to find the beach being swallowed up by the huge surf, and the pool in disarray, so unfortunately needed to cancel.  Apologies for those that received it late, but we cannot really surmise conditions until the morning of, and we do hate cancelling!
Hopefully the rain keeps at bay for this Sunday, our second last Nippers session!
SPECIAL CHARITY FUNDRAISER EVENT - SUNDAY 14TH MARCH - GOTCHA4LIFE.

This sunday we have a special charity fundraising event happening in one lane at the northern end of the pool for the whole day.
Nick, Mitch, Harry, Jordan and Jim (5 local men) are collectively swimming 50km in one day to raise money for mental health.
Spoken by Nick Baker "The issue of mental health is something close to our hearts, and also we want to put in the hard yards and fundraise for Gotcha4Life, a charity that will use this money to directly fund several grassroots, high impact workshops and training programs aimed at equipping people with the necessary tools to manage their mental health"

They will be swimming from sun-up till sun-down, so they welcome anyone to come along, show their support and even challenge themselves to swim a few laps alongside them!

If anyone would like to donate to the cause, there will be a tent for donations, or you can do so via this link: https://gotcha4life-fundraising.raisely.com/t/50kmswimformentalhealth
Please help support this!!

All these metrics are surging into the stratosphere on the back of ultra low interest rates and the improving economy. Confidence is also returning with the ongoing rollout of vaccines.
