Connecting to our neighbors, God, and the land, using sustainable agriculture to meet local hunger needs

When is the right time?

That question reminds me of a song the cast sang cast sang when Hamilton and Burr meet each other for the first time in the musical, Hamilton, "What time is it?".  The wisdom of Ecclesiastes also begs that question when it tells us that "for everything there is a season".

And what about the garden?  Here too that is a good question.  Within the months of gardening (February - November here in North Carolina) there are smaller seasons when it is the right time for planting for each vegetable.  At this time of year, we are planting the early crops like onions, cabbage, peas and spinach.   Later it will be the season for others.

If you are looking for guidance on the "right time" to plant your garden favorites take a look at this helpful planting guide from our North Carolina Agricultural Extension.

To become a member we request $15 per household (waived if this is a hardship).  This garden's primary goal is to provide food for local hunger relief.  However, members that log at least 10 volunteer hours are additionally eligible to harvest for their own households any time through the week.

It is easy to join online.  Please see the link at the end of this newsletter.

This Saturday

This Saturday  we will be planting potatoes, sugar snap peas and possibly more cabbage and broccoli.  we will also be tilling the garden as we prepare for the new season.
