NEW YORK — DirectWomen is pleased to announce the members of its 2020-2021 DirectWomen Board Institute classThe Board Institute will be held October 6-8, 2021.

The 2020-2021 DirectWomen Board Institute class is comprised of General Counsel of Fortune 500 companies, senior partners at top law firms, and leading lawyers from private equity and government. These distinguished women lawyers represent a wide range of business knowledge and experience in their industries, which include finance, energy, telecommunications, retail, and manufacturing, among others.

Since its inception 14 years ago, more than 215 women have participated in the Board Institute, and more than a third of the Board Institute’s alumnae have been elected to serve as directors of major companies, such as: Tesla, Inc., Visa Inc., The TJX Companies, Inc., Valero Energy Corporation, Party City Holdco Inc., Intercontinental Exchange, Inc., and others.

Board Institute participants are identified through a rigorous search and selection process that involves a written application, reference letters, and a committee selection panel. At the Board Institute, the class will meet with an extraordinary faculty comprised of CEOs, C-suite and search firm executives, and directors of public companies to discuss key issues facing corporate directors. The Board Institute is chaired by Professor Hillary A. Sale, Associate Dean for Strategy, Agnes Williams Sesquicentennial Professor of Law, and Professor of Management, Georgetown University; Public Governor, FINRA Board of Governors; Advisory Board Member, Foundation Press.

Peggy A. Heeg, Selection Committee Chair and 2009 DirectWomen Alumna, said “The prestigious DirectWomen Board Institute provides a great opportunity for successful women attorneys to focus their business expertise and analytical skills for board service. The DirectWomen Board Institute taught me how to apply my experience and problem-solving skills in the boardroom and was instrumental in positioning me for my first board position.”

“If one thing has become clear in the last year, it is the value of diverse leadership and strong corporate governance. DirectWomen is dedicated to diversity in the boardroom – for the value it brings to the corporate dialogue and because of the powerful business case for diversity,” said Catharine Biggs Arrowood, Chair of DirectWomen. “DirectWomen alumnae currently serve on more than 100 corporate boards,” she added. “As I reflect on the success of our alumnae, I am confident that many members of the 2020-2021 class will similarly receive future appointments as directors and will add significant value to their companies’ boards.”
