What's in Bloom this month?

MARCH 2021

Photo of the Month: The Grass is Greener

Hard to say what's more gorgeous: the fairytale castle or the fairytale carpet of a lawn! This Leesburg, Virginia dream lawn is the proud product of Bloom and the expert care of Kane Landscapes.

We are heading into the optimal lawn fertilization period for our region; reach out for recommendations on products and Bloom-friendly landscapers!

Customer of the Month: Cardinal Creek Plant Farm

When we say that Bloom is great for growing anything, the edible gardens at Cardinal Creek Plant Farm come to mind. This Prince Frederick, Maryland nursery and garden center, now in its 33rd year of operation, used Bloom to grow all its demonstration garden crops last year, including kiwiberries (a fusion of kiwifruit, grapes and kumquats), asparagus, melons, and this big honkin' tomato.

"We were very, very happy with the results, and didn't need to add any additional fertilizer. We plan to expand our use of Bloom this year," said Cardinal Creek's Doug Dunn.

Check out the business for flowers, seedlings fruits and veggies!

Retailer of the Month: A Few Cool Hardware Stores

We are excited to announce five new Ace hardware stores have joined the Bloom retailer family, all owned by local Ace franchisee A Few Cool Hardware Stores.

As senior buyer Willa Reddy put it, "We chose to try carrying Bloom because we've heard great things about the product and we always strive to support other local businesses.  We're happy to be working with a neighbor."

Visit Bloom's retailer page for a list of store locations, which include Petworth, Silver Spring, DC, Baltimore and Takoma Park.

March 30 ASLA Webinar on Sustainable Lawns

Lawns get a bad environmental rep for various reasons. However, a dense lawn also provides environmental benefits, such as reducing soil erosion and the urban heat island effect, as well as improving the infiltration of stormwater.

Join Bloom and the Potomac Chapter of ASLA on March 30 for a free webinar on the benefits of turf in the landscape, as well as describe how best to establish them using recycled organic products.

The event is geared toward landscape architects, but all are welcome! Register here.

Recording Available from Webinar on Managing Sports Turf with Bloom

Did you miss our webinar co-hosted with the Mid-Atlantic Sports Turf Managers Association (MASTMA)? Click here to listen to a recording and learn about the benefits and applications of Bloom for sports turf.

As MASTMA board member Charley Lakey put it in his introduction relaying his positive experiences using Bloom on the Catholic University of America campus, "Who can complain about a product that turns waste into beauty?"
